Not really news and possibly it should be posted in the current MangaUK thread instead but it looks like they carried on looking into the NTSC stuff https://twitter.com/simonm094/status/191971022222786562
I wonder what problems they ran in to.
I might as well throw my thoughts on this subject into the mix.
I honestly believe that distributors need to look more at the Japanese market for inspiration. Prices should go up, with physical releases becoming collector's items for fans of a particular series instead of the current...
Considering how well Manga manage to handle things I wouldn't be too surprised if the "problem" was that they hadn't updated the firmware on their PS3 test unit since release and the disc used newer features requiring an update.
They didn't even manage to sort out the mono-audio issue on...
"When outputting ... in SD only discs recorded in NTSC standard can be played"
That sounds pretty clear to me that as long as you're outputting in HD you can play whatever you want.
I wasn't questioning the UK one playing NTSC discs, I know for a fact it does as I own the US Dragonball Z DVDs and they've worked perfectly on both PS3 models I've owned.
I was questioning the claim of non-PAL territories being unable to play PAL discs. As it makes no sense to me for the DVD...
The shot down suggestion was Manga taking BDs from US print runs to reduce the number of copies they had to purchase.
If they use NTSC masters they will still be getting their own UK print runs done.
Are you sure that's true? I find it very unlikely that the playback software would be different.
I can understand most non-HDTVs in the US not supporting PAL, it isn't a useful feature when your country gets almost every possible English release.
If I was going to choose one of the routes to go WTH at it would be Kud. I'm still unsure of what happened towards the end of that, and whether it was supposed to fit in with "the secret of the world" from Refrain.
I've spent the last two days reading Little Busters as the anime announcement reminded me to get to it. Unsurprisingly I have to agree that the Refrain route was far and away the best. Of the actual girls' routes it's a close call between Haruka's and Mio's.
ANN article about the podcast.
Regarding the comment he made about a potential One Piece license. To me it sounded like if the licensor (Toei) is content with the performance of upcoming series (DBZ and others?) he should be able to get a contract signed for One Piece.
Hmm, shows I've seen more than once :

I don't think anyone with any sense expects the Vita to outsell the 3DS. Nintendo has long been the king of handhelds and I don't see that changing any time soon because of demographics.
I honestly think the Vita will be seen as a success (by Sony) if it can match the PSP hardware sales and...
