Manga Ent. UK strike deal with Funimation for 5 anime series

That really depends upon what subtitle scripts they receive. The R1s of Bleach also lack signs subs and that script is probably what Manga were given to work with. The opening and ending songs are translated but this is only shown if you watch with subtitles on. Given that this appears to be a...

There is a very old live action Japanese Spider Man too :P

Manga Ent. UK strike deal with Funimation for 5 anime series

According to what was said at AmeCon sales of Fullmetal Alchemist dropped considerably after Revelation took over distribution from MVM. That may be a consideration. The slow rate of release over here may have been one attempt to pull sales figures up and when that didn't work they probably...

    The anime crash

Anime, in general, sells better with dubs than without. In this case Bandai made a strategic decision, given the need to completely redo the dub from scratch, to give impatient fans the sub-only version first and to release a more consumer friendly version later down the line. In the UK we are...

    The anime crash

No, he is talking rubbish. Bandai are doing a two phase release of Gurren Lagan. In order to release it quickly, given the amount of time that has elapsed since it was originally announced as licenced by ADV they chose to do a quick, sub-only release to cater for impatient fans. A release with...

Crunchyroll to add 12 ADV Titles

Really!? They have a massive back-catalogue of some years still regardless of losing the recent ones from the last year or so.

what the hells up with anime central?

This isn't made up but was stated as fact during the industry panel at AmeCon. The simple fact is to get advertisers to invest in advertising on a channel the channel first has to prove its audience. To do that the channel needs to invest in a ratings scheme to obtain 6 months worth of data that...

    The anime crash

The reason that ADV did not release certain titles was simply due to the Japanese licensors not providing them with the masters. Without them they were unable to produce the final DVDs and release them. This, I believe, was largely fuelled by the deal with Sojitz going sour so can be attributed...

Crunchyroll to add 12 ADV Titles

Girl's High (aka Jyoshikousei or High School Girls) is a lot of fun and... wrong to the extreme (in the right way in my opinion ;)). I don't think it is to everyone's taste but it is a good comedy/slice of life type of show.

    bleach dvd question

Gatefold packaging is a style where the packging folds out with all of the discs held inside it. --edit I would provide a link but the only place I could find one is on Ebay and not a valid product to boot...

    bleach dvd question

Going by Viz's usual standards I would imagine them to be gatefold style boxes.

    Amecon Round Up

From what Andrew said the Bandai channel is all but up an running in many respects. There are a few things to work out such as sizes of the streams (quality) that will be provided but the structure and backbone is (almost) ready. I am sure the Andrew will flesh out and correct this in time but...

    Amecon Round Up

The simple reason is that they are shows with simple plots, a lot of action and are generally fairly episodic (you can join a lot of them in the middle of a series and largely get the idea or at least enjoy what you see without knowing the overall underlying plotlines).

    Amecon Round Up

What makes you think FF:U didn't sell well when it actually sold phenomenally by all accounts. It has the FF brand name so that was a given. The quote only mentioned the licencing costs (as an upper extreme case) and said nothing for the sales but Hugh mentioned they were good.

MVM license Daphne In The Brilliant Blue; DVD in November

They didn't make a massive mess of Naruto. By all accounts it was a very popular show. Just because you didn't like does not make it bad.

    Review of Death Note #1

It doesn't help with images though. The text would still flow off to the right if you reduced the text-size - and it would be harder to read as well.

ADV UK anime releases for the final quarter of 2008

Maybe but with Revelation's current scheduling we would likely not see them until 2010 if at all. You have to consider that Red Garden and Kurau were not selling too well (hence the proposed boxed set finish) so they at least may never get finished over here.

    Law Journal Article Supports Fansubs

You make it sound so simple. Just get it on TV. The anime companies have tried and tried for years with little-to-no success. There just isn't a perceived interest in anime for TV companies to bite and take a chance on it. Licences are another factor where the UK distributors buy distribution...

ADV UK anime releases for the final quarter of 2008

ADV lost the Gurren Lagann licence months back. Bandai Ent is responsible for its distribution in the US and it will probably fall to BEEZ when it comes over here.
