    Manga Entertainment Discussion

Re: manga on anime central As I understand it, Manga do not show anime on TV themselves. Bleach was licenced from Viz Media BV and Bandai owned the TV rights to Ghost in the Shell by a strange twist of fate.

Review of IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix #5

I loved IGPX. It was a good, fun series with a decent cast of characters. Not particularly cerebral so if you are looking for that then this probably isn't the way to go. The biggest hill it had to overcome was the slating by anime fans due to the involvement of CN in the whole thing but when it...

Death Note on Play.com, as well as Ex Machina, Lupin the 3rd

I can quite imagine that from Jerome. There was probably a twinkle in his eye when he said/wrote that :P.

FUNimation to acquire some Geneon titles?

As far as Black Lagoon goes, MVM are releasing (if I am not too mistaken) both series starting this year. Geneon have definitely dubbed the second series of that since they actually stated that they would complete that dub despite ceasing their distribution. Of course other dubs may not have...

FUNimation to acquire some Geneon titles?

The liklihood is they would stick with the Geneon version. Geneon stated that they were still committed to creating the dubs for their (in-house) licences and would simply be outsourcing the distribtion to a third party.

ADV Films go Blu-ray as future of DVD releases still unclear

The problem is that DVD resolution is nowhere near the resolution of HD TVs and looks very pixellated on HD TV screens. I had the chance to compare Paprika first hand between the DVD release and the Blu-ray release and the Blu-ray version was just so much sharper than the original DVD. The point...

    G.I. Joe on Anime Central.

I didn't realise there was a new one.

    G.I. Joe on Anime Central.

Isn't GI Joe an American cartoon? I never saw the cartoon but I read the UK comic (Action Force) which I quite enjoyed.

ADV UK seals sales and distribution deal

They were never really on the down. It was mostly overreactions on the part of the UK forums that showed any real panic. What we really need now is affirmation of ADV US's state of affairs.

ADV Films go Blu-ray as future of DVD releases still unclear

Well, Sony have started the Blu-ray releases of anime with their releases of Paprika and Tekkon Kinkreet (I watched Paprika in Hi-def last night and it was absolutely amazing compared to the standard def DVD). FUNimation have released (or are planning to release) some titles on Blu-ray; Bandai...

Bandai license two series & launch controversial rel. sched.

This is a case of not having your cake and eating it. People want to see the releases of DVDs very close to the Japanese releases without realising what this means in terms of content. This is a traditional release mechanism for Japanese releases and is forced due to the minimal amount of time...

    What is lolicon?

By sexualisation I mean that they are depicted in a sexual context for the purpose of sexual gratification. Somebody simply desiring somebody who is young does not in itself make the work a lolicon piece but rather means that the character in question has lolicon tendencies. Of course, as...

    ADV Goes Blu-ray

Assuming a 32bpp (bits per pixel) true colour image, a single frame would come in at 7.9 MB per frame. Given that film is transferred at a rate of 24 frames per second, 1 second of video would come in at 189.84MB. That leads to a Blu Ray disc being capable of showing about 269 (about 4 1/2...

    What is lolicon?

Just to clarify, based upon people's misconceptions posted here. Lolicon does not, in any way, shape or form, imply animated child porn. It is a modifier implying a desire for or themes regarding the sexualisation of children. A person can be a lolicon person; a manga could be a lolicon...

    ADV Goes Blu-ray

People do seem to be overreacting a little with this. They most certainly will not be replacing their releases with Blu-Ray versions but will release Blu-Ray versions of their titles as options for those who want them. This is only common sense since releasing only on Blu-Ray would immediately...

    What is lolicon?

Lolicon is Japanese shorthand for Lolita complex with the name based upon the infamous book, Lolita about a man infatuated with a young girl. To that end lolicon is used to refer to people who are infatuated with young girls in a sexual sense as well as any media that is based around such...

    Manga Entertainment Discussion

They announced and released Bleach since then. They also strongly hinted last year that they are looking into Death Note as a licence as well. I don't see the lack of licence announcements from Manga as a big deal since they don't licence prolific amounts these days. Besides that the winter...

ADV Films UK halt sale & distribution of select titles

Dentsu pulled Geneon out of the market, that much is true. However part of that decision could have been based upon Geneon being in the advanced stages of striking a deal with ADV that was ditched by one party or the other at the last minute. Still to speculate on that as being the cause for...

    Beez Entertainment Discussion

So far as Gonzo goes they seem to be looking at (possibly) distributing their own stuff. They have self-distributed a few titles in Japan and experimented with Afro Samurai in the UK last year. Kadokawa, of course, have begun to release their titles via their own brand in the US, using...
