    The Games Workshop Thread

Man, this brings back memories. From like 12-16 I did nothing but play Warhammer. True my painting always kind of sucked, but I loved playing wargames. I remember taking part in several events and went to games day 4 times. Sort of dropped out of it when I got into writing at 16, (and some of...

which animes inspire you the most

Nothing recent I'm afraid. I write fantasy, but am usually more of a conworlder - the fantasy world is as important as the stories themselves, and it is pretty grounded. The story I wrote which these things influenced me with has very little background, and is very dark and weird, not what I'd...

which animes inspire you the most

Inspire. Easily the 'trilogy of madness' - Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, Paranoia Agent. Those three STILL have me thinking years on, and perhaps the proof is in the pudding - they inspired me to write a novel (I write anyway, but not usually like this) with some of the same themes. -...

Shows that get better with rewatching, shows that get worse.

I've really struggled with Elfen Lied with rewatching. First time was cool, but the revelations really put me off. Tried to watch it again a couple of months back but just didn't get anywhere. Fantastic Children was the same - really trying to figure things out on first watch, but all the...

Every anime opening is the same.

Many thanks, I remember seeing a trailer for it somewhere and it was bugging me.

Every anime opening is the same.

What was the Anime at 3:06 with the girl flying with rockets on her feet? Rings a bell but I can't seem to place it.

Tales from Earthsea 7-10 Some know my feelings for this Anime - namely that I don't consider it that bad. Indeed, this rewatch just confirms what some people complain at me about - I still consider it a pretty good film, and better than the one I consider Hayao's weakest, Porco Rosso (Cue...

Nausicaa of the valley of the wind. Still a great film, though not a patch on the Manga. (Agree with Miyazaki himself on that one)

Whisper of the Heart 9/10 You know, when I first watched this about 4 years ago, I had already seen The Cat Returns and had also read some reviews and it didn't seem like it would be my thing really, but I gave it ago (I was rapidly going through the Ghibli stuff at the time) I'm glad I did...

    late 80's/90's anime

Sorry, didn't make myself clear. I meant 'there is no option to see FBC dubbed' i.e it has never been released over here. As for sub/dub. Each to their own. I'm personally with Miyazaki on this one, in that he wants people to watch the films, not the subtitles. Believe me I've watched a huge...

    late 80's/90's anime

I'm a dubber too, when I can find them, but Future Boy Conan doesn't have that option. Which is annoying considering they dubbed rubbish like Angel Cop :P

    Ghibli On TV

As much as I will always defend Earthsea, Cat Returns is definitely a better film than it. However in context I can see how people may (superficially) see Cat Returns as a Lightweight Spirited Away.

Birdy the Mighty Decode (1-26) 8.5/10 I was always a fan of the old Birdy the Mighty OVA series. Sure the dub was crappy and Satomu was a whiny git, but the mere concept was fun, though, as fitting for a OVA it did feel a little claustrophobic. Well the one thing the series isn't is...

    late 80's/90's anime

Try and find Future Boy Conan. I've seen many 90s Anime look worse and it came out in 1978! (Though you may have to *cough* prowl the net *cough* to find it.)

    late 80's/90's anime

Man yeah. I watched Angel Cop a few years back and aside from the first episode it was horrible! ... Anyway, something which has bothered me. These days Anime is like coming out in waves each season. Wasn't it the same back in the 80s/early 90s - only that none of it got over here? or was...

New Studio Ghibli Film 'Kokuriko-zaka kara' out this summer

Absolutely. I had a bit of an argument with people over this. IMO Earthsea is certainly a better all around film than Porco Rosso, and while not great, is certainly watchable. Equally, I have watched the old Lupin III and Future Boy Conan series. HAving checked which episodes Miyazaki worked...

Ghost Hunt: 7/10 Not sure what to expect from this one when I began, but was pleasantly surprised in general. Definately not something I had expected to see played so straight in an anime (usually subjects like this either go into farce, or gore explosions) The multi episode plots were a...

What manga are you reading now?

Addendum: Just finished it. An extremely poor ending that one, which sort of petered out rather than ended with a bang. Indeed the whole of Burst seemed much more 'meh' than the first 4, almost as if the author was dragged back to it against his will when the story was already boring him. A...

What manga are you reading now?

I'm most of the way through Gunsmith Cats Burst. A little disappointed with it at the moment, it seems a little rushed compared to the original 4, but we'll see what the last volume has in store.
