This thread is getting too serious. To that end, here's a conspiracy theory: there are loads of good Chinese restaurants in the UK because the Chinese are trying to get the rest of the world overweight and slow so they can beat us at the olympics. Makes sense to me. :P
Caught some of the opening ceremony on the TV while having my lunch at work yesterday. Quite honestly I'd rather watch that than the games themselves! I'm sure each hosting country is trying to outdo what the last one did four years previously but still...it looked fantastic.
He's one of those actors who improves any movie he stars in purely by his presence on-screen - one of the stars I have utmost respect for. I wish him well and hope he makes a speedy recovery.
It sounds right up my alley too...I've added it to my 'To Read' list. All I need to do now is somehow track down an in-print copy, because English language editions seem to be pretty rare. Amazon seem to stock it though.
It's similar to the way things are going over here I guess - it's the relative rise in number of incidents rather than the total number that makes it newsworthy. As Maxon and ayase pointed out, the UK and Japan are nowhere near the worst for violent crime but it's worrying that they're getting...
An important factor I think is that Goro hadn't worked on an animated film before - even Miyazaki and Takahata started out as inbetweeners, gradually working their way up the ladder before directing films themselves.
In this case, I guess Miyazaki is giving these people an intensive training...
This movie is excellent - a rookie director too iirc.
If the official announcements point to a showing near you, go see it. ^_^
*fingers crossed for showings in the North or Manchester*
Not bad, not bad. I'm dead chuffed with my current ISP (high fives to ayase, fellow customer!) in terms of service and value for money but I think it has as much to do with how close (or not) my house is to the local exchange. I'm on the edge of town but I have no complaints with my connection.
What you said. Which is why the movie of Cowboy Bebop worked so well - it's effectively a feature length episode!
As for CB coming off as good live action...don't we have that already? It's called Firefly... :P
Hmm, an interesting list. Nothing by Kon or Shinkai on there but it's a pleasant surprise to see Mushishi sitting alongside the long-standing faves from Miyazaki and Gundam.

Review of Black Lagoon #2 by Martin
Black Lagoon is shaping up to be both a gritty and satisfying action show and also a fascinating character-driven piece that’s placing plenty of emphasis on...
@Kurogane: out of interest, can you actually play guitar? That is, the guy is using a gimmicky way of fretting and his guitar is probably in open G tuning or similar but it still takes timing and quite a bit of technical proficiency...more than thrashy power chords but then different musicians...
By the same token, they are still human beings and therefore still as prone as anyone to making errors in judgement - the fact that they're a 'think tank' merely suggests that they are paid to 1. state the bleeding obvious or 2. state opinions that are just as flawed as the rest of us but...
Play.com have an international site (originally titled Play USA). As far as I can tell it's the same setup as the UK one, even down to free delivery.
I hadn't a clue that the Lost Boys 2 even existed! Let us know how it compares with the original, eh? ^_^
I have to say I'm gutted that 5cm is delayed yet again - it was one of the few upcoming ADV titles that I was actually looking forward to.
On the plus side it gives me time to save up for a Blu-ray player and HD set!
