Oh yeah! My half-awake brain couldn't tell the difference.Given the number of discs and quite digital looking finish on the boxart I'd assume it's the remake rather than the older OVA version, but that is a guess tbf![]()
Definitely season 1 of the remake. Unfortunately, I'm not sure we'll see a release of season 2, since Sentai never released it in the US.Just saw the Newswire this morning; is Bastard the 90s version or the remake?
Don't worry it's only 209 days until the Christmas sale
"HC thinks our Gundam releases are crappy, does he? We'll show him!"Exciting to see Gundam Seed Freedom get a blu ray included in collector's edition packaging. The US only got a 4K release in a standard case.
Now I wonder if this release is subject to the same licensor restriction that subs are locked to the Japanese track."HC thinks our Gundam releases are crappy, does he? We'll show him!"
I'd like to believe my constant criticism benefited us all like that... largely because the alternative is pronounced existential dread...
To be honest, as much respect as I have for Henson, Bowie and both movies, I'm confused why an anime company is releasing them. Yes, I know anime in Japan isn't as insular as 21st century westeners have made it but it feels like a real reach to be applicable.
Yes, it's a very weird tangent for them to take. If AL want to diversify out of anime then there are surely other areas that have more of a viewer demographic overlap than Laika or Jim Henson. I would love to see the live-action Hana and Alice, or a better release of Shin Ultraman than the shoddy effort Cleopatra did for the US. Plus we're now several months on from the acquisition by Toho, but AL have given no indication that they're interested in Toho's extensive live-action back catalogue. Around a dozen Godzilla movies have never had a UK release on DVD or blu-ray. Classics like Matango, Rodan, and Atragon have never been released here. And, perhaps most bizarrely, the bulk of Takashi Yamazaki's filmography remains unavailable in the UK two years after he won an Oscar for Godzilla Minus One.Yeah, this is bizarre. There's plenty of unavailable anime-adjacent live action films that would be great to see Anime Limited release - Shunji Iwai's Hana and Alice, the live action films of Hideaki Anno and Mamoru Oshii, Jacques Demy's Lady Oscar, Obayashi's Drifting Classroom, Summer Vacation 1999 etc. - that I don't quite get why they're releasing two films that already have really good 4K UHD releases
Plaion got a Europe wide licence for Labyrinth and Dark Crystal and as Plaions former UK label, despite being focused on Anime, they were pushed onto them prior to the sale to Toho.Yes, it's a very weird tangent for them to take. I can only assume that the Jim Henson licences were either a passion project for someone at AL or there were some circumstances that resulted in the licence pretty much falling across their table. Maybe AL have an existing good relationship with the lawyers who represent the Henson estate.
Or maybe David Bowie was a thoughtform brought to life by the wet dreams of josei manga readers, and that's the connection.![]()
Someone beat them to it I guess. Kamen Rider's latest season's been licensed and is currently airing on Youtube with english subs. This is reminding me that like 5 years ago Andrew said they were looking into potentially licensing Kamen Rider.
I mean that's a general Toei deal with Shout and fair play to them they pushed back on initial stipulations that made the streaming model Toei wanted pretty bad. Theoretically AL could still negotiate something for physical releases.Someone beat them to it I guess. Kamen Rider's latest season's been licensed and is currently airing on Youtube with english subs.
That's just online, AL could still do the physical release, they've worked with shout factory before to release digimon tri.Someone beat them to it I guess. Kamen Rider's latest season's been licensed and is currently airing on Youtube with english subs.
I mean based on what I'd overhear in the Gundam Base London lines, Rider is pretty popular with Gen Z here.I dunno if KR would sell in the UK, but I would buy them if they fixed the issues of the Shout releases.
iirc the worst was Ryuuki because Shout weave deinterlaced the 1080i60 master to 1080p30 which is something that should never be done to native 60i content.
Kuuga is the only release that is of acceptable quality (no extras though).
