I don't know if a lot of people are aware that pc dvd and bluray drives are no longer being made resulting in crazy high prices as everybody scrambles for what's still available. I had to replace the 12 year old bd drive in my computer a few months ago and was able to replace it with a normally priced one and I decided to get another one as a spare backup a few days ago. All I could find was an external drive (a 5 1/4" internal drive in a case) for $150 and I consider myself extremely lucky as every other place I looked was asking at least $100 more for the same make and model. FOMO at it's finest!Received this weekend.
Verbatim BD drive bought through an Amazon marketplace seller, and fortunately it has a Pioneer BDR-UD04 inside, which means that I can now rip my UHD collection with MakeMKV without having to mess around with firmware on this drive.
Never mind the dusty big box next to it, that the old LG BD drive which still does it work although sometimes it chokes on some discs, which I hope the new one will gladly take. That Pioneer drive is also twice as fast as my ancient LG drive.
And yes I do have Japanese styled mouse mats
