As am I. My solution is to not support these collections. If they later release them separately I'll buy any of them I want. I didn't buy every single one of the previous releases as there are a few I didn't feel worth owning, and as such I have no problem with continuing to not have a complete set.

The rest of the announcements I am not interested in, which is typical for Discotek and me.

There's bad news but good news.

The bad news is that a number of titles have discontinued, either due to age or other factors (I'll tidy up this list to my traditional format very soon).

UPDATE: A couple of releases listed by Justin Sevakis were already 'discontinued' previously (like as far back as a few years ago) so I have removed them from the list.

With the bad news out of the way. Time for good news. The MediaOCD team were annoyed by Crunchyroll Store's incompetence of randomly delisting non-OOP Discotek Media titles, so they have officially announced that the entire 'in print' Discotek Media catalogue will be available to purchase on the MediaOCD store in batches every month. You can now order some including Kimagure Orange Road and Lupin the Third Part I right now. Enjoy.

'Tis becoming increasingly rare for a Discotek release to appeal of late. Their newer licenses tend to be live action, re-releases or... obscure. Thus, I'm very much in ze 'nothing intersets meeee' camp atm. I had hoped after UY that Disco would license Ikkoku, or Touch, to go along with KOR. I'd also like the KOR Summer's Beginning film. Recall Discotek casually disregarded it, when they released the OVAs + singular 'movie' set 😒. Re Ikkoku/Touch, I guess there are licensing/cost issues. Bleh.

My 'yikes' is more mild amusement over that lot remaining in circulation for this long. Besides Inukami 🐕, most of the older stuff is likely better erased from existence tbh. Star Ocean Ex especially: I pity the few poor souls that purchased the anime that nearly made me quit anime, despite being my first.

MediaOCD selling hard to acquire discotat is a +1, all the same. Might get those Galaxy Express movies... even though I'm semi-sure Adieu had a "No, Luke, I'm your father" twist and was an unintentional Star Wars parody. Owning a complete collection though...

Regarding Lupin, deep down, I think that @cfx wants to own the Lupin speculs collection. 'Tis of course deeply aggravating when loyaly buying individual releases (CH annoys me too, given S1/2 pt1/pt2 looks messy on shelf), at higher cost, only to be slapped across the face with a 🐟/discounted complete set. Or in this case, not to be able buy the individual releases.
Worked out well for me, mind, as I found the Lupin films/specials (is it just the TV specials?) to vary so wildly in quality and tone that the only value is if they're bundled together... with a few exceptions such as the Koike films. Can't please everyone~

As do I! 🙃Well, the first 20-30 eps of Touch. After that, Minami's cursed to eternal filler-padding chastity.
How did you come across them, if I may be so bold as to ask?

When newer to anime, I went on quite the... 'holy old school rom-com trio' odyssey; watching Ikkoku, Touch and KOR back-to-back. At the time, I was an innocent, far less manly soul than I am today (FAR!), and I recall both Godai/Kyoko/Mitaka and Tatchan twin love triangle frazzling me out emotionally. Had me curled up under my bedcovers, it did~

I'd actually read Ikkoku years prior, as 'tis my friend's favu manga. He even sent me some spare books I needed to complete my collection. Alas, I got very frustrate at the pacing, not understanding Takahashi's episodic comedy is part of her charm.... as it took 6 sodding years for Godai/Kyoko to stop pratting around (as my MITHRA 😡 slowly increased, fearing NTR before I knew what NTR was.) I do believe I moaned a lot.

Until the last 5-10yrs, anime/manga weren't quite so... abundant. It wasn't uncommon for manga and anime to go OOP, much to profiteers/my delight on eBay. Nowadays, everything is mainstream so supply beats demand by a wide margin. Mostly.

Discotek seem like an outlier given they're still niche and they don't print in excess. It could also be a business strategy given their recent affinity for re-releasing, similar to Nintendo--intentionally create a scarcity of stock, then re-release. It works as end up ordering before no longer can. Maybelline.

Also a question - does anyone know if Kenichi the Mightiest Disciple The Attack of Darkness OVA Blu ray is OOP or is it getting any more stock? Had a cancellation from when I purchased it before Christmas and since any stocks seems to have evaporated.

I checked the main website and could not find it listed in either the OOP or catalogue. Might have missed it :)

MediaOCD are getting more stock of Kenichi soon. Keep an eye out because they'll slowly be stocking more Discotek titles.
