The Japanese release with English subs is cheap on the used market. I paid less than £20 for the 4K. Collector's Edition BD goes for around the same price.

Were it not for the fact that the missing frames are from repeated shots that they can copy from, I would agree with that. This is something that they can fix without needing new materials from Japan.
