Gave Attack on Titan a whirl (eps 1-3) over the weekend and liked what I saw enough to carry on. Also continued with Natsuyuki Rendezvous (eps 3-5) for some supernatural SoL And Aku no Hana ep 9 :D:D:D which continues to enthrall (even though, having read the manga, I know exactly where this...

Seriously?? I thought that 10 minute walk home in silence really worked well. Anime doesn't have to be all action, all the time. I've done that slow trudge home after a 'heavy' night, it happens. And it fitted that story and situation perfectly. In what way was it boring?? While the series is...

The Garden of Words 46 minutes of sheer beauty. Gorgeous animation and a mature and heartfelt story, with the angst dialed down a few notches from 5cm, but still perfectly observed. No one does rain (or trains) quite like Shinkai. I rather think this has just knocked 5cm down into the #2 slot...

Time of EVE: The Movie on Blu-ray --- Kickstarter

I did pledge the $55 for the physical version, even though I don't (yet) own a BluRay player. I like this anime more than enough to support it's wider release, even though a simple subs-only DVD would make me very, very happy indeed.

Aku no Hana ep 8. The one where they walk for 10 minutes... Builds up the suspense nicely throughout the ep, a false reveal, then the real gut-puncher at the end. Fantastic!

    What did you BUY today?

Blew part of my bonus on a Ainol Novo7 Elf II android tablet and 32Gb SD card for same. Both arrived yesterday, so spent a pleasant evening getting it set up with apps and the like and used it to watch the latest Aku no Hana on the commute in this morning :D

The Anime/Manga I Bought Today Was...

Within the past week I've ordered/bought/had delivered: Aku no Hana vols 1-5 (with 6 and 7 pre-ordered) (yes, yes... I know I promised not to read ahead of the anime, but it's just too involving!) Bunny Drop vol 8 Knights of Sidonia vol 2 Black Butler vol 13 Cage of Eden vol 10 with a couple...

Top 10 UK Anime Sellers Revealed: April 2013

Seconding the need for both Bunny Drop and Wandering Son to get a pukka release here. Have funds, will buy. Yes, I have seen both, but these are series I want to own. I think streaming has provided a 'try before you buy' facility, certainly my anime purchases have increased as a result of...

    The General Conversation Area

Aye... as they are really raking over very old ground, seems like pretty much any (still living) male TV 'sleb from the 60s or 70s is now fair game. I was shocked about Rolf though. Pretty good thus far... went traing33king with a bunch of mates on Sunday, turned 45 on Tuesday, went to see...

    What did you RECEIVE today?

A day or so after the event, but I got a repro 1907-pattern bayonet, scabbard and frog for my replica Lee Enfield SMLE, some German traing33k books and a purple uke. No... not that kind of uke... (though I wouldn't refuse if one of those ukes did turn up on the doorstep   )

London Comic Con (aka MCM Expo 24-26 May)

Anyone else going?? I'll be there (as usual) helping staff the Steampunk stand all weekend, do drop by and say hello! The Neo-ites usually have a meet-up on the Saturday afternoon by the west-side entrance - anyone up for that??

Aku no Hana/Flowers of Evil (eps 1-3) Strange, creepy, angsty school-based SoL. Not your average anime - for a start the rotoscoped animation lends a big chunk of realism and the sound (music, background noise... even the voice cast) add so much to this. Definitely my pick of the current...

It's a fantastic series, both in terms of story and the visuals. Just a very, very nice slice of life with a yuri twist.

    Sad Anime

Might just be me, but while I found the concept of Barefoot Gen brilliant, the execution, in particular the cutesy character design and the rather joyous music jarred and spoilt the seriousness of the underlying story. The actual bomb scene though, superbly done. GotF though... totally and...
