Did she pass in her sleep by any chance?
No, we took her to the vets as soon as they opened this morning as he had a fit late last night. My mum stayed up all night with her but you could tell this morning that there was something wrong. It was like a switch has been flipped and turned her brain off and we agreed that the humane thing was to have her put to sleep.

That's a shame: was asking more out of hope as had similarly traumatic ends with all 3 of my dogs, so you're not alone. Our last we had the vet come out to us, to put him to sleep, after taking him to the vets the day before and not able put him down there and then. Time before that far worse. Death never easy to deal with but always hope when it happens, it happens at home without vets/hospitals. Dogs no like vets.

Don't want to make you more miserable, so I'll shut up for real: if as you say she had suffered brain damage, or wasn't able function, for the best to not her suffer. You and your mom did the right thing. Worst thing you can do is draw it out once decision needs making. Or not know something is seriously wrong and not act. That seizure/fit was likely just signaling it was time.

Anyway, try to remember her as she was for now, not as she ended. It'll get easier.
