UK Anime Distributor Anime Limited Discussion Thread

Usually for a new title, the minimum print run is 1000, with reprints being 500 (this is just taking into account standard releases). So regardless of how many orders a title might have, it would still need to have 1000 made. I think the pre-order discount is more of a way of just saying "thank you for supporting us by buying from us direct". I'm sure this applies to all small companies, both AL and ourselves.
That's interesting. Thanks for the information.

A small addition on the previous post:
1000 units print run is usually for the discs - but if CE & Standard Edition are released around the same time and use the same discs, they might share that print run.

Other companies have produced rigid boxes & booklets in <500 units, but the lower the print run the less money is made - one one still needs all that approval stuff, translation work and so on so one can't put much effort into titles that likely won't be good sellers.
CE that aren't store exclusive likely still have at least 1000 units print runs.

Also if the extra stuff is shared between regions - e. g. Steelbook production - the total print run matters.
(I guess Steelbooks still have like 3000 units minimum print run?)

As DVD mastering is cheaper, it would work with 500 units print runs - but some titles won't be selling this either.

Jesus, this is getting ridiculous.
I don’t care what the reason for the delays are. There’s a lot of moving parts in production of anything etc etc but I do care that they think it’s acceptable to not tell paying customers their orders are being delayed.

And not just by a week or two but by months. I think that might just warrant an email.

Well this is interesting. My Call of the Night standard edition seems to have shipped, which places it somewhere between the second and third of the four release dates it's had. I did have another item in the order, but the email indicates that both items are in the shipment.

I'm starting to wonder if AL are being messed around by someone in their supply chain.

It is pretty frustrating. Can't control delays but at this point I only know about delays because I check here.
If they have a means to tell distributors it is delayed, surely they could also send out a standard template email to anyone who bought directly saying it's delayed. Doesn't need to be fancy or anything, can be identical every time bar the title and the changed date, but at least we'd know clearly.

It's probably just the CE that's been delayed, as it will take longer to produce the art box/booklet. 😭

A (small) German Manga company recently claimed that their printers currently demand 7 weeks for processing, which they claimed was about double the time that would be "normal" at this time of the year (and likely even more compared to off-season).
Given the fact that this might not be a singular issue and Anime Ltd might use printers in Europe as well, that could be a reason.

I also noted that at Plaion Germany most releases that include printed booklets and such face (more) delays.
However approval stuff could also be involved as well^^
