How big is your anime backlog?

I've tried to find a thread like this but couldnt find anything. If there is one, just point it out and delete this one...

Just wondering, how big is everyone's anime backlog?

I see a lot of people buying tons of anime and I wonder, are they able to keep up with everything that comes out these days? Of course, there's the thing where a lot of people watch stream these days and when they buy the series/movies, they have already seen it.

From all the stuff I have, which is not a big deal, I havent seen:

Dragon Ball Z - Resurrection of F (acquired this month)
Michiko & Hatchin Part 1 (was a bonus when I pre ordered Garden of Sinners from MVM, not really interested to try it)
Nekomonogatari White (I have stopped buying these sets from MVM so I have only seen Black, not sure if I should continue but at least, I wanna watch this at some point.

Now there's some I own but I have watched them before buying (I plan to watch them of course otherwise I would never got them in the first place):

I tend to make a point to only buy new stuff once I've finished watched existing stuff.

Plus I probably don't watch that much... So zero backlog for me.

My backlog is massive but I have this fantasy that eventually I'll be watching everything I want to streaming and can gradually chip away at the other stuff in between seasons or when it's quiet. As it is I mostly do that, except there are always a few titles which never get streamed here so it remains in a sort of awkward equilibrium where I'm still acquiring things down the line that enter the backlog queue instead of going straight to my shelf for a rainy day.

That's nothing compared to my live action backlog. I'm currently in the middle of the Babylon 5 DVD and It Ain't Half Hot Mum boxsets, have the Star Trek TNG Blu-rays, and the X Files complete Series Blu-rays, Band of Brothers Blu-rays, 45 movie Blu-rays, about 20 live action DVDs, all waiting to be watched, and this morning I got the urge to watch Farscape, so that's on my to purchase list as soon as there's a decent sale.
 
To be honest I don't regret accumulating such a huge backlog. With the current exchange rate I feel that it was actually a pretty smart move to queue up years and years of content to cover me for our country's economic meltdown; I paid very little for most of the stuff in the pile :(

Totally with you. All I need is a TV and a Blu-ray player, and right now, with the amount of stuff that I have on my shelves, I can watch three hours of discs a night, and not need to watch anything again for around five years. Given how much broadcast TV I watch, (about five minutes of news a day), and how much broadcast TV there is I want to watch, none, I'm pretty happy with the situation.
 
Mine is bad... really bad. :( Pretty much all blind buys as well lol I'm very daunted but equally excited to slowly work my way through all of these.

Contentious question! When picking out a show from your backlog to watch, do you all go first in, first out or just pick the most desirable show first? My friend and I cannot agree on this at all (I am in the latter group).

Secret Option C! I have a hard time picking anything, so I put my list of stuff I have to watch into a randomiser (I use random.org, if you're curious) and watch whatever it picks.
 
I have a very big backlog (not bragging). I can't even list them because I'll probably miss something lol.

As for picking one out, I tend to go for whatever I fancy at the time regardless of age.
 
In terms of physical media i have about 30-40 shows, maybe more.

In terms of crunchyroll queue......i can't believe I've only just discovered the joy of streaming.

I try not to watch shows that are too similar one after another. Case in point my last few shows have been:

I watch the scratched/scuffed discs first. With a big backlog it's best to watch the shows that might need replacing or refunding first. I got the Pet Girl of Sakurasou in the Sentai clearout at TRSI last Spring, the discs were pristine, so I left it till winter to watch. Unfortunately disc 6 skipped at one point, one of those issues where a speck of dust gets pressed into the disc or something, and after 9 months Right Stuf understandably could do nothing, so I wound up buying Part 2 of Pet Girl in the winter sale and swapping the disc out.

I keep a simple list of my backlog so I don't forget about stuff (I always put my new purchases straight on the shelves with everything else). Of course, this list does not account for all the anime I want to rewatch at some point, it would be enormous if it did.
As for how I choose what to watch, I look at my streaming choices for the season and pick something dissimilar to what I'm watching (so for example, if I'm not watching a mecha show at the time then I'd pick FMP). Though series length can play a part depending on circumstance.
