I couldn't find a thread like this, so I thought you were missing out, so here we go...

Ok, kind of self explanatory.

Just post up your dvd collections, of anime, and non anime.

I was about to point my webcam at my DVD case and post the picture here, but it doesn't want to work. I hate my webcam.
 
Yep that's a bootleg. But just to make sure... how many disks, are their chinese subtitles and what region is it listed as?

I guess I'm going to have to buy official one now ;D

There was 3 discs. The region is just the globe kind of thing (Like normal) but instead of a number it just says "ALL" and underneath, it says "NTSC".

Could you tell me how you deemed it a bootleg? Just so I can tell that I will never get a bootleg again.
 
3 simple rules for checking if something is a bootleg.

1. Bootlegs usually come with a higher episode count per disk. For example Cowboy Bebop was officially released on 6 disks but bootlegs would condense them onto 3 giving lower video quality.

2. They are usually Region Free/All Regions/Region 0. Although there are some releases that are region free it's very rare.

3. They will have chinese subtitles and usually quite poorly translated English subtitles. Example on the Trigun set I bought years ago 'Vash'(the main character) was 'Dash' 50% the time.

Just to add another little something about spotting bootlegs: if the price is too good to be true, there's a good chance it's a bootleg too. Watch out for ebay and amazon marketplace.

Also, all bootlegs would be boxsets, so don't worry if you're thinking about picking up a single dirt cheap at like £2.
