Ubel Blart ep1-2This is an odd confection, it feels like it’s torn between standard shonen fantasy tropes and trying to do something darker, often setting up a situation that looks like it’s heading somewhere gruesome, only to pull back from it at the last minute. It also feels like the whole thing has been written with only the cliff notes guide to Berserk as any point of reference; if this started life as a fanfic, it wouldn’t surprise me. I could live with that if the writing was just a bit sharper - as is, it’s either too dumb or not dumb enough, I’m not sure which. I do like the world design though, the airships are kind of neat.Did I watch it just to make a Paul Blart reference? Maybe.
