With the kind permission of Studio Ghibli, we are extremely excited to announce that we are OPENING AUDITIONS for Whole Hog Theatre's stage adaptation of 'Princess Mononoke' based on the animated film, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki!
Auditions will be open to all, but unfortunately the number of people we can see is limited. The roles will be unpaid and voluntary (as are all roles within Whole Hog Theatre) but offer a chance to be involved with an incredible theatrical event. Those who wish to audition need to sign up for a slot via this online form; this will go live at 8am this coming Thursday (25th October).
PLEASE DO NOT TRY AND SIGN UP BEFORE THIS TIME AS YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE COUNTED AND YOU WILL HAVE TO REAPPLY FROM 8AM ON THURSDAY! Applications can only be submitted through this form and should not be emailed in.
The closing date will be Friday 9th November, but we are expecting a great deal of interest and will be operating on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure you sign up early to avoid disappointment. Once they're gone, they're gone!
We will be holding three full days of first round auditions:
Thursday 22nd November - New Diorama Theatre, London
Friday 23rd November - The Band Factory, Leamington Spa
Saturday 24th November - Warwick University Campus, Coventry
All auditionees must memorise and perform a 30 second monologue of their choice and participate in a short physical workshop for the first round auditions. Please come dressed appropriately.
Any other information that you will need, including detailed directions on how to get to your chosen venue, will be emailed to you with the confirmation of your successful sign up, along with the time of your slot.
Please note that all recall auditions (two rounds) will be held the following week on Warwick University Campus, Coventry.
Should you be cast, all rehearsals will be on Warwick University campus, so cast members need to be able to commute easily, or relocate to the Leamington or Coventry areas. As this is an unpaid opportunity rehearsals would be part-time (weekday evenings and weekend rehearsals) but time commitment would increase in the run up to production week. Rehearsals will begin in earnest at the beginning of January, but R&D sessions will be happening the first three weekends of December for those who do not need to relocate or are based locally.
Confirmed production dates are the 2nd - 6th April 2013 at The New Diorama Theatre, London, but we very much hope to take this production further over the rest of 2013; please bear this in mind when choosing to audition.

With the kind permission of Studio Ghibli, work is beginning in earnest on our next project - adapting Princess Mononoke, based on the animated film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, for the stage. Meetings are being had, storyboards are being drawn, tea is being drunk in alarming quantities and, most excitingly, new team members are being sought. Whole Hog Theatre is planning to bring some fresh, keen talent onboard to join us in the fantastic opportunity of turning this much-loved film into a piece of theatre.
The positions we are looking to fill are:
Set Designer
Costume Designer
Technical Manager/Lighting Designer
Stage Manager
Hair and Makeup Design
These positions will be unpaid and voluntary (as are all roles within Whole Hog Theatre) but offer a chance to be involved with an incredible theatrical event. We're looking for talented, creative, adaptable people who share our passion for making theatre. Successful applicants will join the current team, so we need people who can work closely with those already involved. Set, costume, and hair and makeup designers would be working primarily with our Conceptual Artist, Polly Boon - or as we like to call her, Design Overlord.
All positions involve a significant time commitment and an active role in creating the production; designers will be getting involved in the physical work of construction. Expect to get your hands dirty!
As we are based in Leamington Spa (Warwickshire, UK), anyone joining us would have to be able to commute easily or be based locally; time commitment will obviously increase as we near production week in April next year.
Those interested should send a portfolio (this could be drawn from any sources, whether for college/university/professional work, or personal projects - we need an idea of creative style and skills) or CV to me at [email protected], along with a covering letter explaining why they want to join the production. Remember, all levels of experience are relevant; candidates are chosen based on their demonstration of talent and commitment, and not necessarily on previous credits/professional experience.
