Wolfs Rain Discussion

Maaaaan this show is badass. I'm only up to episode 8 but feel like chatting about it with people.

I'm watching dubbed.

Anyone else enjoy this show?

Oh and please use Spoiler tags where appropriate, and if possible, what ep it relates to :p

Hello, dragon boy. If you stop saying bra' or anything similar, you can re-add me to your friends list. I was too lazy to get back to you informing you of my decision until now. It required a lot of thought.

As for Wolf's Rain, I'm in the process of rewatching it. I'm up to episode 19. I should really say episode 15 since episodes 15-18 are all recap episodes but whatever.

Wolf's Rain is a top series. The dub is excellent - I don't even mind hearing JYB for the 100th time - and, visually, it's outstanding, the art being top draw. And, of course, the soundtrack matches the other aspects in terms of quality, Yoko Kanno(sp?) providing her best soundtrack.

My complaints lie with the pacing, the lack of any decent explanation with regards to the setting and the worlds history (Bones...) and the four episode recap session. I assume the budget ran low and they were forced to cut out four of a planned 26 episode series, resulting in the TV series not ending anything and a four episode OVA series needing to be created. Because of these flaws, I can only give the TV series 8/10.

I wish there were more episodes with animals as the main characters. Wolf's Rain has some awkward moments, such as wolves punching each other as humans and leaving bruises on each other and a wolf punching another wolf through a small gap in iron bars, knocking the wolf that got hit out. But, overall, I liked the idea of the main characters being wolves in disguise. It's something a little different, and that's why Wolf's Rain is so popular.

Re-added :p

I gotta agree with you there- I wish there was more Wolf content as such. The very few fights between Wolves has been done really nicely, and it'd be great to see more of it. It's way cooler watching Wolves attack each other than watching some Teenagers punch each other.

Can't wait to rip through more of this :p

It does kind of suck that 80-90% of the time the wolves are shown in their human forms. I can understand why - to show emotions an animal can't - but it just seems odd to see wolves looking like humans for such lengthy periods.

Have tissues on-hand for the OVA if you're a wuss, by the way. Without giving away too much, it isn't very cheerful.

The fact that it happens <i>at all</i> isn't odd, just that it happens for lengthy periods? I love your weird ideas of what is and isn't "acceptable reality" in anime. :p

...Huh? It isn't odd in the Wolf's Rain universe because wolves exist. If the story was set in our world and wolves were thrown in then it would be odd.

... Yoko Kanno(sp?)

If sp means you're unsure, I'll confirm. It's Yoko Kanno again showing how eclectic and awesome she is. It even have a bossa nova in it, which surprisingly fit really well.

About the series. I've got the boxset from Beez, which included the OVA's, so only noticed they were ova's and not part of the tv series once I tried adding it to MAL.

It is a great series.

Spyro, more fights on their wolf form will happen more to the end of it.

Yeah- especially since Kiba and Tsume always look so damn grumpy.

And at least I know it's not a happy ending now

Gooood.

Just seen up to ep 11 earlier.

Maaaaayn it's good.

It's heavily implied that Blue is dead!

However, thanks to MALs damn character roster I know that he isnt

It is one of the few shows I had to go out and buy the sound track for. I wish I had bought the nice box set with the CD instead of the m-lock sets.

Wolf's Rain is the first anime I saw (not counting the kid stuff I used to watch) and its still my favourite, lol I'm sure I could ramble on and on about how much I love everything about it.
As much as I love Yoko Kanno's Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, think her Wolf's Rain soundtrack is easily her best.
Personally, I think the dub is waay better than the Japanese version - its so perfectly cast, and although some of the voice actors are reeeally overused now, at the time I'd never heard those voices so that didn't really matter to me. I've got the boxset, I imported the volumes as they came out in the US..although Wolf's Rain must be like, the only anime to have better UK DVDs than US ones..lol just my luck~
Also I never cry at movies/tv shows/anime/whatever..but I cried my eyes out on the last eps. 8D Sorry, thats kinda spoilerish, but seen as someone above me said something similarr..
Aahh I really have the urge to rewatch this noww.

I'm really not lookin' forward to the last eps now

Ah well i'll post back in a few weeks after finishing to see if I cry XD

I'm trying to build up the willpower to rewatch the final stretch. I'm up to episode 23 and once I'm done with the sixth volume it's depression all the way.

This song pretty much sums up the end of Wolf's Rain - beautiful, yet very sad.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BX4FAeyhzhE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BX4FAeyhzhE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

It plays during quite possibly the most depressing part of the entire series.

The Wolf's Rain OVA is like the end of Berserk in terms of impact, the only difference being that it lacks the WTF factor of the Berserk ending.

Aion; i'm on the 4th Volume. Is there a way of watching 4 recaps without wanting to shoot myself or the screen?

Edit: Watched em now. Damn they were boring.

Finished rewatching it last night.

The last episode (TV) was pretty terrible. A large amount of it didn't make sense, there were lots of 'nobles' spinning around in circles for no apparent reason and Bones attempted to make the finale of the TV series more dramatic than it really was by throwing some action in at the end. A rushed mess, in all honesty.

On the other hand, the OVA was beautiful. It had flaws, such as the perfect timing for the events that occurred and Darcia randomly turning into the grim reaper after he'd appeared to be a decent guy. His actions at the end, which he had no motivations for, struck me as being forced because there wasn't any other villain that could be used. If not for the recap session in the TV series, I don't think the story would've ended like it did in the OVA.

Not that the issues really mattered. What did matter was the character development and seeing what happened to the characters after growing so attached to them, as well as the visuals and music, and all of those aspects were nailed. The good outweighed the bad, in short.

My ratings stay at 8/10 for the TV series and 9/10 for the OVA.
