Which NGE should i buy?

Magical Girl
Hey all, im new here and all that jazz, *waves enthusiastically and then feels rather silly*

Anyways i was hoping if you guys could help me with a wee problemo. Thing is that i'm looking to buy the complete series of NGE. I live in the UK (duh) and dont have access to a multiregion player so i'm looking for the region 2 dvds but the thing is that im lost when it comes to what collection i should buy.

From what i've researched it seems that i can:

Just buy all of the platinum discs sepatately - expensive but at least ill get all the special features and artwork
Get the 7 disc complete platinum collection - (i'm not sure if i can post links, just search for it in hmv or play)

Basically i was wondering what the difference is between these (if any) or if theres any other versions of NGE hanging around since its been released and re-released 2 or 3 times now. Ive found it bloody hard to find the collections: play and amazon used to sell them but have now posted a wierd "coming soon" or "discontinued/feel free to wait indefinitley if we decide to restock" message despite the fact that they've been out for a good year. Other retailers either dont stock it at all or at highly inflated (even by NGE's standards) prices.

Thanks for reading this far, any help would be greatly appreciated as to which one to get or even a place where i can get a good price (cake may or may not be involved as an incentive) Oh and apologies in advance if ive posted this in the wrong place or time :D

Thanks a lot for the link Roadie, it was a great help, especially the youtube vid. I'll see about trying to buy it in the next week or two.

The cheapest i can find it for is £95 in hmv *sigh* i knew i should have bought it earlier, it was going for £70 in virgin until they bumped it up to £105!

Cheers

*yawns lazily at the troll and decides not to eat him...yucky*

It looks to me like the Platinum Collection is OOP now... last place I saw it in stock was ADV UK's official site, but it's not there anymore, can't find it on any of the other sites either, so ebay's your friend for that, if you do indeed want it. All it was was a fold-out digipak containing the collection, stuffed in a tin box.
The Platinum collections seem to contain all the 26 original episodes, but according to what I've just read on the ADV website, only contain the directors cut episodes of 21-24, so I don't know what they did with the last two for that release.. maybe the website is wrong? Can anyone confirm that who's watched the remastered version as I've only watched the original : O Just when I thought I had everything of Evangelion, ADV decide to not put in the last two director's cut episodes :/

The Platinum version has both the directors cut and original versions of episodes twenty-one to twenty-four.

So they just didn't bother to add on director's cut episodes 25+26?..

EDIT: Have to purchase that Director's Cut DVD to get them :/

Well if anyone is looking into getting them before they disappear, check out HMV or this Anime-On-Line place, both stock them at the same price.

Mind you i dunno what this anime-on-line place is like in terms of service, i've had some bad experiences with ebay so im pretty distrustful of anything which hasnt got a shop i can go and complain to face to face - a bit more reliable and easier to sue  But oh so expensive!

I don't think the last two episodes even had a Directors cut version.

Anime-on-line is MVM's shop. No need to worry about having any bad experiences.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Director's Cut...

A revised and re-edited special edition produced under the careful supervision of creators Hideaki Anno and Gainax to include amazing new footage never before available outside of Japan. This volume contains Evangelion episodes 24-26 in both the extended Directors' Cut versions and the original broadcast versions, allowing fans to see the creative progression of this seminal title's final moments!

Seems they do, I wonder if there was a reason for this.

Ebay is pretty much the worst of the lot - I don't know about other DVDs, but last time I checked the anime only 5% of the DVDs weren't pirate. Anime-On-Line is nothing like it, it's not bad at all.

If you're not certain about using an online store for the first time it's probably worth just asking around to get some info on it though.

Apparently the only changes to episodes 25 and 26 on the director's cut DVD's were some very minor subtitle changes(it was probably just a different translation), the dub remains the same as the original version.

Crikey, though i'm not that surprised to be honest. Good to hear that anime-ol is clean though, thanks for the info, another shop to browse is always good.

Shame to hear that it doesnt contain the last two dc episodes. Ah well.

Like I said, the last two episodes of the director's cut haven't been changed much, if at all. So I wouldn't go out of your way to find them.

ANN is wrong. There are no directors cuts of episodes 25 - 26. ADV may have made some minor subtitle tweaks to those two episodes when they released them on the DC disks, but Gainax only did DCs of episodes 21-24
