What do I do in regards to UP1?

Long story short I pre-ordered the Samurai Pizza Cats box set, it was shipped out earlier this month but got lost in the mail and they had to send a replacement which I got today. I've been told that in order for UP1 to be compensated for the original lost order I have to wait for the Royal Mail to contact me to confirm I did not get the original order. Problem is that I don't know how the Royal Mail is gonna contact me and if they don't UP1 will charge for the replacement (which is about £50).

If the Royal Mail don't contact me soon, what do I do?. I talked to the Post Office Delivery Center for my area and they said it should be up to UP1 to deal with it completely...what do I do

I have some experience of this from the opposite side. What happens is that the seller submits a claim to Royal Mail for lost shipments, and Royal Mail (dragging their heels as much as possible) randomly sends a postcard to the intended recipients asking them to confirm the item was lost. If they confirm, the sender is paid compensation. If they don't respond or say they received the item after all, the compensation claim is denied.

If you never receive a postcard and UP1 tells you you're responsible, just tell them to tell Royal Mail you were never asked for confirmation and they should sort it out between themselves. Royal Mail should know who they checked with so that's their responsibility. If you never received your parcel, there's no way you should be paying for it.

This isn't exactly on topic, but has anyone else noticed packages taking longer to come through from UP1?
As an extreme example, I'm getting next day delivery parcels delivered 2/3 days after dispatch. I always used to get my orders through the day after dispatch whether it's by standard first class or Next Day delivery.
Royal Mail seem to be really hit and miss lately.

Usually when I order from them, they send me an email saying it's dispatched and it arrives the next day. But now it's like it arrives the day after (High School DxD was an example of this, it arrived on my A2 results day instead of the day before). So yeah something has turned odd lately.

I got my last order the day I expected it (or rather, I got the "you were out so you have to wait until the weekend" note from the delivery office). Are these large or small orders? I don't recall how my last shipment was sent out, but it was high value so it would have been by a decent service.

This is just a theory, but Royal Mail has been pushing a lot of small businesses over to using Tracked post lately by withholding their compensation and using aggressive pricing. It may be that UP1 have switched to tracked second class (48) over untracked first class (24) for single items or something like that? Since Amazon use trackable post it's been really hard on everyone else as people expect tracking for all kinds of tiny orders these days. If this happens a lot, I suggest checking the postal imprint to see which service was used for the delayed shipment to help draw conclusions.

One of my last few orders was sent Next Day 24h (It even said on the package) yet turned up 2 days later. It consisted of the Madoka Movies, Haganai and the Garden of Words, so it wasn't a small package by any means.
I've got a package in the mail at the moment consisting of Fujiko Mine and both parts of Guilty Crown which I was expecting to receive today.
I'll check tomorrow to see what it says on it. (Assuming that it DOES come tomorrow).

Hmm, isn't the seller by law responsible for ensuring your receive the item? In which case they should not double charge you, and if they do I'd take it up with your card provider.

They are the ones that need to file a claim with the Royal Mail for the lost item, they should not be taking it out on you.

I think thats what they said they were doing, they just need me to confirm with the Royal Mail that I did not get the original order

Unfortunately, your theory doesn't hold any water since all my single package items I've received from them have all be sent by untracked first class with some turning up two days after dispatch (some larger and more expensive items are sent tracked, but the ultimate Madoka figure I ordered wasn't even delivered by royal mail) and one recent order that was sent in two packages didn't arrive at the same time (that was the Madoka movies set (which arrived first), the pizza cats set and one other item) while the next that was sent in that fashion turned up at the same time so it's pretty much hit and miss (just like pre-ordering figures with UP1 as one will get taken off their site just because their supplier isn't listing it anymore).

I've not had any problem with their deliveries. My most recent was a few days ago - ordered the item in the morning, was posted in the afternoon and received it the next day.

I've been buying from them pretty regularly since 2006 and every order I've ever made has arrived the day after it was posted...as far as I can remember, they've only been 1st class too.

On the subject, I had an order of two figures (one pre-order, one "7-14 days") cancelled out of the blue recently, which was a bit of a pain.

They're at the mercy of their suppliers, so if they can't get any or they decide to remove an item then UP has to follow suit which is a total pain for a pre-order.
