US versus UK publications

Dandy Guy, in Space
I buy the majority of my manga on-line. I was recently eyeing some Rurouni Kenshin which was the first time I came across the name Gollancz Manga for publisher. So my first thought was 'oh shoot they only have it german or something'. From this you might gather that most of my stuff is US > Viz, ADV, Tokyopop etc. Obviously this was a dilemma for me 'cause then I started thinking which is the better version, how do they differ? Is it the same, but just for the UK market? Or will the US version be full of nipple edits, or maybe the UK edit the nipples too. Is the translation from japanese the same and so on. Page size, cover art, added colour pages woot woot there was steam coming out of my head. I have quite a lot of DVDs and before buying I surf around a lot for the releases that suit me. So my silly little self  didn't think that mangas would have more than 1 english edition per licence, not counting re-prints, to worry about.

Gollancz Manga isn`t german it is english whiich does the manga releases for the u.k for dragonball/z,one piece,Rurouni Kenshin. So the manga will be in english not german.

The UK editions of Manga are just the American translations with a different company name and a price in GBP and not dollars which you get with the American versions. I've seen Gollancz manga versions of Kenshin compared to the original Viz Media versions and there is no difference except different logo and price. Tanoshimi with they're UK editions of Del Ray manga series do the same thing as well. And Tokyopop's UK branch just sticks a UK price under the American/Canadian prices and then distributes them. So there’s barely any difference.

Thanks Sakimori, that's exactly what I was wondering about. So unless I want all my Rurouni to be uniformly the same (nice when they are though  ) it doesn't really matter.

Yeah it doesn't matter. Thats what my Kenshin collection is like, I've got up to 6 Gollancz and then from 6 onwards viz media and they'res no difference.

I should have checked my shelf. I noticed all FY was Gollancz, except vol 7 which is an old left to right Viz. The old bigger page format is nice for getting more detail, but I don't quite know what I think of the mirrowing of the images. *pondering*

On-line shopping might be relatively easy, but it drives me up the wall occasionally. Without being able to touch and look at the books there's only the ISBN to go by and that's jack all help at times if you have no comparison.

Which is a nightmare to get off. I once accidentally wore away the back cover to try and remove it.

I have the Viz/American version of the first 5 of Rurouni Kenshin, and was going to buy the next few when I saw them in my local Forbidden Planet. The only ones they had were the Gollancz, so I took a look at them...and now I think I'll only be buying the Viz versions. The paper used for the Gollancz versions just isn't as good and is a lot thicker (it was hard to even bend the book a little), and just not as clear. So I'd advise taking a good, first-hand look yourself before buying.

But other than the paper quality, everything is the same as the Viz edition.
