Manga Entertainment have formally confirmed their UK release of The Girl Who Lept Through Time by announcing plans for a limited theatrical run; the movie is set to open in selected UK cinemas on the 19th of September. More information will be posted when received.
Directed by the talented Mamoru Hosoda (first two Digimon films, One Piece Movie 6), this is an awarding-winning anime movie from 2006 that combines elements of romance and slice of life with the titular sci-fi premise of a typical high-school girl who can, suprisingly, leap through time.

Great news about The Girl Who Leapt Through Time! I already bought the Hong Kong r3 dvd with English subs, but for it to get a theatrical release here is really good.

This is an amazing release that deserves my money =D
Now you got me interested there Ayase, does HK releases usually have english subs?

Really excited about this one. Can't wait to see it. Will travel to go see this in cinema. Even with dubs. =O

Ayase... that's sounds a bit dodgy... Are you sure it's legal?

With regards to legality, and to satisfy chaos's interest - Yes, it's a perfectly legal Kadokawa Pictures / Intercontinental Video release I got from yesasia. Here's the product page:

http://www.yesasia.com/global/the-g...ng-kong-version/1005058577-0-0-0-en/info.html

And yes, it is fairly unusual for a HK anime release to have English subs. A shame, because they are so cheap! I actually found out about the Korean version having English subs, but there weren't any of those available - a shame because that came in a really nice fold-out box.

I also just found that HK Evangelion 1.0 and 5 Centimetres Per Second have English subs too. Maybe we should start a thread with these in.
Have I just single-handedly destroyed the UK Anime business? :?

This movie is excellent - a rookie director too iirc.

If the official announcements point to a showing near you, go see it. ^_^

*fingers crossed for showings in the North or Manchester*

If this doesn't get a showing in Edinburgh, I'll be disappointed.

Even if it doesn't - I'm sure one can be arranged as we at Beez are looking into the possibility of some screening runs at the Filmhouse again in the autumn so I'll make sure to ask Jerome at Manga if he's interested in participating too :).

Good stuff. :thumb: I should go to the Filmhouse, since I've never been there before, and they do seem to show some good independent films.

I can see it already, it'll only be out in a limited amount of cinemas and only major cinemas.
I would imagine that it would be the opposite of that in small arthouse cinemas and won't be showing in large ones.
