According to UK-Anime.net, Optimum have acquired the eagerly anticipated CG-anime Appleseed for a UK release. No specific release dates have been revealed as yet, though a limited (one week) theatrical run is expected shortly before the DVD release.

Optimum have been behind many UK anime releases in recent times, including Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. This Appleseed news comes hot on the heels of their Howl's Moving Castle announcement back in late November.

I'm impressed with Optimum. Their releases of Grave of the Fireflies, Bloodlust and now Appleseed prove they are commited to releasing more anime in the UK than just the latest Miyazaki.

I doubt the theatrical release will be big. The post on UKA suggests it will only appear at one cinema, though I'm sure it will sell well on DVD.

The UK industry is looking better every day!

Yes, but Spirited Away won an oscar and was pretty much family friendly, it's likely this is going to only show in London or local arthouse cinemas.

To be fair though, the cinema isn't what it once was (multiplex or arthouse). I mean, if you got a fair set up, DVD quality with friends around is debatably better. Maybe. :D

And yes, I'm really glad Optimim got the license to release Appleseed. Should be a strong edition therefore. :)
