Top Gear pipes anger anti-smokers
Jeremy Clarkson and James May
Clarkson and May lit pipes filled with herbal tobacco
Anti-smoking campaigners have asked the BBC to apologise after Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson and James May lit pipes on Sunday's show.

It's this kinda stuff that pisses me of.
Oh no a smoker all are kids are now going to be druggies and die young and horribly and alone.

Bloody rediculous, soon there will be no smoking on any shows, hell tv will become some sat in a room reciting the alphabet over and over again and I bet someone will still complain when they get to the letter P

I'm Anti-Smoking and even I think this is a load of twoddle.

If children want to waste they're money and health, they'll do it because they want to, not because two older men on a programme about cars, smoked pipes.

Its stupid really, i mean if it was cigerettes it would be more understandable but still rather stupid. But i guess with this whole trying to stop people smoking and such on, it was expected =/.

They barely smoked anyway, James May continued for a bit longer. . .Just because its his personality. Top Gear seems to always get complaints about EVERYTHING, Its one of them things that is too popular for its own good.

This reminds me of how they tried to remove all the cigarette references from classic cartoons such as The Flintstones, purely because of channels like Boomerang showing them. I'm not sure if it went through, But most of them are only on fairly late at night now.

It was an open area, the crowd wasa safe distance away and teh smoke just was not being blown in the face.

Those who complain are being to anal about the whole thing and they need their heads examined

Hail the conqueoring clipboards! Bah, hog wash!
I hate smoke, but I ain't gonna stop someone from doing so. Hell, my ceramics class is loaded with fag-heads.

To complain about it on TV, well, just leave the letter to the side and we'll burn it on Nov 5th. :)

I'm a former smoker who doesn't advise anyone to take up the habit but jeez, live and let live! They weren't breaking the law by the sounds of things (not even the new one that came in last summer) so I think this is just the political correctness do-gooders again (just like the Abbey Road album cover where George's ciggie has been airbrushed out).

It's funny, but cigarettes are seemingly being banned from our screens but you only have to watch a primetime soap to see characters drinking alcohol in plain view! What sort of messag is that conveying to the viewing public?! If drinking (and worse) is allowed on TV, what's wrong with *pretending* to smoke a pipe?

Smoking is already disallowed in movies and programs, that's why someone complained. It's rediculous but to prove it watch 'Thank you for smoking' That's about a guy who's in charge of promoting smoking and despite the theme (and the amount of people who 'apparently' smoke), nobody in the whole movie smokes while on screen.

I'm not a smoker myself, and personally I'd prefer if people didn't smoke near me, but I don't own the planet and usually I choose to sit where people aren't smoking. In actual fact, it's worse for me now they've banned smoking in public places in Bristol because I have to walk down streets lined with hundreds of smokers that would usually be filling up the bars that I never enter.

Top Gear is tripe anyway...just get rid of it!

Your one of those top gear haters
Top Gear is very entertaining and is one of the best shows on BBC2 today. Yes top gear used to be a serious show but the format that they have been using for the last 4 years the number of views has sored were as previously it was declining.

Yes The silliness also tends to outway the cars but the still have reviews of at least 3 each week, & the have also done some semi serious shows on safety and stuff.

If you don't like top gear just don't watch it
