too much gonzo in the uk?

Ironically, their best series still hasn't been released in the UK. I'm talking about Gankutsuou by the way (which just edges out Last Exile). Most of the time, GONZO is merely mediocre; they used to be famous for having high quality animation, but now they seem to spread themselves too thinly and the vast majority of their new shows look more like panning across CG paintings e.g. Gantz. I'd rather see the more eclectic Madhouse anime in the UK, like Monster.

that's what i am talking about. i am not ripping gonzo but it would be nice if other compaines got a look in from time to time. bee train and gainax aren't afftected. production I.G are doing well for themselves and madhouse need to have a fair chance as well! sunrise aren't affected either. what studios do u guys think are left out by uk compaines?

Yeah I agree. I wish GONZO stuff would just be treated like any other studio. It seams UK companies currently think "OMG GONZO stuff! Awesome everyone loves!!" when really to be honest it’s like "meh a few of they're series i.e. Trinity Blood are pretty good but they're not that great." I won't go into all the anime I want to see here but yeah I agree. Madhouse have a huge amount of good stuff to they're name and I expect less than half of it will get to us :(

The only Gonzo series I'm waiting on is Blue Submarine 06, seriously, when will I get this? ;_;
I'd say Beez would be your best bet for releasing that one as it's an old Bandai title in the US. It got a screening on Cartoon Network or somewhere back in the day so a few people must have seen it.

(I didn't like it myself though)

The point with Gonzo is that most of their stuff is firmly aimed at the teens market, which a lot of the older fanbase (who probably represent the majority in the UK) can't really connect with (of course there are exceptions to this, such as Speed Grapher but it is true for a lot of Gonzo animation). Most of it is fluff, doesn't require much thought to understand the plot but is fun to watch. I personally like Gonzo's work but I can understand why others don't like it. I personally find the opposite with Gainax stuff, which many people praise highly but I find extremely mediocre. Everybody has personal tastes and I am glad that such a wide variety gets released in the UK.

Gonzo have done a lot of good anime, including some of my faves (Hellsing, pumpkin scissors) but I can't deny that a lot of the stuff they release is a bit naff.

It's funny, I loved Welcome to the NHK. However, that was because of the plot. The visuals were at times awful and it's a series that deserved so much better. I'd really like to dig out the manga on that one sometime.

Too much Gonzo? Maybe, either way there are some shows that just aren't worth licensing. :(

Witchblade and Full Metal Panic! were pretty well done. Besides, I don't put too much stead in animation quality unless it seriously affects my enjoyment. That's why I'm able to enjoy anime like Trigun and Devilman Lady.

I would love to watch Gankutsuou, but the law of anime in the UK seemindly forbids it. Just as it forbids Haruhi, FLCL and Diebuster being released on DVD over here, too :/

Why not import it?

Geneon just released a boxset for it. Just in time too.

You can either gamble with DVD Pacific and possibly get it for £45 (or if it gets nabbed by customs, ~£60), or play safe with Up1 and get it for £75 (which seems like a daft option actually o_O)

I've been ordering my imports from http://www.imageanime.com/

Though I think I bought there last boxset of FLCL :p Its $60 for the boxset and then about $20 for the postage but that all adds up to about €60.

The deliveries are very fast too. I think I got my boxset off them after 4 days.

I get all my imports from amazon, managed to get FMP boxset for £25 and excel saga for £20. All through 3rd party sellers of course!

Most people probably do that. Amazon's prices can be worse than buying in shops.
