Thoughts on baki?

I am currently working my way through Bali (as I took a breather from one piece which I will go back and catch up again) I just wanted to know anyone’s thoughts on Netflix’s attempt at anime?

I for one am enjoying it. I mean i pretty much watched part 1 in one sitting which is new for me.

I love the brutality of it, there is very little action as it’s more about the violence and martial artists wanting to taste defeat.

Once I have given it a 2nd or even third watch through I’ll repost another thread my overall rating of it. Yes I am aware there is two other arcs I need to watch yet baki Hanma and of course the latest one baki no dou (I believe it’s called.

Would love everyone’s thoughts on it as I love that Netflix is taking more of an interest in creating in house anime I also thoroughly enjoyed gin tama. But that’s for another post.

I have a very selective taste when it comes to anime watches as I’m a 90s kid and got spoiled with great anime’s. So far it’s getting a solid 6/10. But this is from only watching part 1!

I watched about 8 episodes of the modern Baki series. It's very brutal and creative in its different powers - you can't call them techniques really. Something about the pacing felt off to me though. It's probably because they started adapting form the middle of the original manga (they had some previous anime adaptations in the 90s covering the early stuff already) but it felt very spread out and slow in places.

It got me interested in trying the manga. And it's finally getting printed in English! So the anime did the job from a marketing perspective at the very least.

I wrote this about Baki when I reviewed it last year...

"Baki has made me pull out the ‘if you like this sort of thing, you’ll love this’ cliché."

and

"Baki is the kind of show you watch if you like the idea of people flaying each other by happy slapping."

and

"At one point Baki hears that losing his virginity will make him a stronger fighter. All I can say is that I was so relieved when his girlfriend consented, as he didn’t look as if he would take no for an answer."

and

"These are people who would have Chuck Norris soiling himself. Fist of the North Star is Tellytubbies compared to this."

It wasn't for me, but 15 year old me would have loved it.
