Death Scythe
The October issue of the Japanese magazine "<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=3088">Comic Blade</a>" is set to confirm that production is underway on a further TV series of the surreal 'slice-of-life' anime "<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=3597">Aria</a>".

According to <a href="http://www.moonphase.cc">Moonphase</a>, the third season (which has been in production since spring) will again be directed by <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=644">Junichi Sato</a> (Pretear). With no license for "<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=3597">Aria</a>" outside of Japan, the likelihood of it ever coming to the UK is slim, let alone to America; however, with ADV's recent interest in the likes of 'supernatural slice-of-life' anime such as "<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2480">Air</a>", it is safe to assume that it is not completely out of the question.

Update:  <a href="http://www.moonphase.cc">Moonphase</a> reports that "<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/company.php?id=1766">Mag Garden</a>", who produce the Japanese magazine "<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=3088">Comic Blade</a>", have confirmed that the third season of "<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=3597">Aria</a>" will be called "<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=8657">Aria the Origination</a>".  Furthermore, <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/people.php?id=644">Junichi Sato</a> will not only direct the animators of the project, but will also be able to edit the scripts.  The <a href="http://www.mag-garden.co.jp/pdf/20070830.pdf">press release</a> (in PDF format) includes an image of all the characters of the series, and also states that the "<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=3597">Aria</a>" manga has sold more than 3 million copies.

I've never seen Aria myself, but I'm aware that it's a fairly highly-rated series that has a dedicated fan base. I'd definitely like to check it out sometime, since it's often name-dropped when people are talking about the best "slice of life" anime - doubt anything can top Honey & Clover, but we'll see :)

Incidentally, as should be obvious by his news post, DaNiMe has joined the team and is going to be regularly helping out with news reports on Anime UK News. Good luck! :)

Genshiken and Welcome to the NHK > Honey & Clover, though I am only a few episodes into watching that so...yeah.

Also I've never heard of this either but I'll be hitting up the usual spots to see if I can check this out.

A couple of years back I bought the first few volumes of the Aria manga, simply because the cover art looked so fantastic I just had to buy it.
I shall go back and read it I'm sure, if and when I see the anime. I did read a couple of chapters of the manga and it seemed very calm and, well, of course, very 'slice-of-life'-like.

As for the news reporting; I'll always do my best. :p

EDIT: And for those not aware of what Aria is about. From what I could gather, the main character is a girl who works as a boat-lady (like those boat people who go along the waterways in Vienna and other places). Her companion is a creature called "Potato", I think. It basically looks like a upright dog with a giant head, with cat ears. So yeah, oh and this all takes place on a futuristic planet.

heh, guess I count as one of those "dedicated fanbase" people then ;)

Extract from the Aria Wiki entry:

Aria take place in the twenty-fourth century, on the planet Aqua (formerly Mars), which has been terraformed into a habitable planet covered in oceans and seas. The city of Neo-Venezia, where the story occurs, is based on Venice both in terms of art and feel, and despite the futuristic time period, there is very little science-fiction in the series.

The series is the story of Akari, an apprentice gondolier with Aria Company, one of the three most popular gondola companies in the city. She is training to become a full-time gondolier, or undine, as they are called in Neo-Venezia.

The story basically follows Akari and her two friends, Aika & Alice, as they train to be Undine's. It charts their day to day experiences mixing in a degree of mysticism linked to the secrets of Aria itself. It's almost exclusively character driven, with a gentle happy style of comedy.

For me Aria has got to be one of the most laid back and chilled anime ever in existence!
If your after action, adventure, romance or drama, you really won't find it here. Instead you'll find something that can only be described as "nice". The best way I can describe it is the same sensation as happily snoozing in warm sunlight on a grassy bank ;)
The opening music describes it best!
It's the kind of thing you watch when you've had a hard day at work or the world is getting on your case, and you just want to watch something so endearingly charming it makes you forget all your worries.

I can guarantee that 99 percent of you will hate this series or it'll bore you to tears, but for the remaining 1% of you you'll find something so beautiful and magical you just won't be able to stop watching with a gentle smile on your face...

p.s. The white blob thing is President Aria and he's a cat ;)
Each of the Undine Companies have a cat as their mascot and company president. President Maa rocks the most!

Never seen it before so I can't really say if am looking forward to another season. ADV have a lot of animes of this genre of supernatural slife-of-life such as Kanon, Air, Chobits, NHK(more of dark humour than supernatural).

From that Wiki entry. I'm very intrigued. I want to watch this series now. Although AIR did bore me to pieces. This seems to have something about it.

I watched four episodes, literally nothing happened, uneventful and boring. You've got to have the patience of a SAINT to appreciate it.

Ive never heard of this series but seeing what I have read im pretty curious to what it is like. Hopefully not a pile of crap 8)

I thought Aria would be boring when I first heard of it and only really started watching the 1st season when the 2nd season was airing. I think I like it cause it's full of girls and cats, 2 things I quite like . Nothing much really happens over the entire 39 eps made so far (OVA starts next month :D) but I still like it alot for no partiular reason *cough* President Aria *cough*

What better time to get more views for my Aria the Runaway AMV

Love the manga for this. I really hope somebody picks up the anime in the US or UK as I don't do fansubs and I am a bit dubious about importing things except R1 domestic releases. I have seen some of the character designs which a beautiful, if they manage to take that into the animation it should be a pleasure to watch even if not much happens as some have suggested.
