BATTLE LOG
TIME: 0321
YEAR: 1545
WEATHER: DRY

A long battle commenced this day. The warriors clad in green; the Shimazu clan, declared war upon the purple clad warriors of the Ido clan. The battle was located in the province of Osumi, and will go down in history as “The Battle of Kokubu”.

Deploying from the safety of their fort, the warriors of Ido had 1 score and 65 troops. 1 score 20 Bow Ashigaru manned the fort, supported by the general Ichikawa Sadatsura and his elite group of 45 Samurai Retainers.

To the East, the Shimazu clan deployed 1 score 20 Bow Ashigaru of their own, hidden in woodland, fronted by 1 score 20 Yari Samurai. To the south, preparing for a frontal assault were 3 score Yari Ashigaru, along with General Tamegashima Tomokata; a young commander whom has only seen 25 Winters, but has unwavering loyalty to the clan, despite his low rank. He led from the back this day, safe-guarded by his Cavalry.

After the General Tomokata inspired troops through a mighty speech, the battle begun. Weather coniditions were dry, and the Shimazu clan saw this as suitable to start the siege. The Yari Samurai and bow Ashigaru led the charge. Many volleys of arrows peppered the Ido archers, whom had opened fire on the distraction of 3 score Yari Ashigaru charging towards the front of the fort! Quickly, the Ido clan began to panic, however, there was no way into the fort- and with no siege equipment the gate was not falling easily! Seeing this, the Yari Ashigaru chose to scale the walls, taking many casualties as they did so. Undetected on the Eastern side, the Samurai uni had already began climbing the walls themselves- with one goal in mind; to capture the Tenshu! As the battle raged on, the cavalry led by General Tomokata moved around to the Western side, and after swiftly dismounting horses commenced climbing the walls. All was nearly lost for Ido at this point – however they succeeded in breaking one of the Yari Ashigaru units! Alas, after being charged by the wall of spears, the Archers soon broke, and the Tenshu was captured.

Victory for the Shimazu clan! Upon seizure of the province, the honourable Shimazu clan chose not to loot the fort, and chose to peacefully occupy it – however, despite the victory it was a sad day. The Shimazu clan had lost 2 score 56 of their own people, many of which were the brave Yari Ashigaru who fearlessly stormed the walls at the earliest opportunity. All of the enemy had been wiped out however in a brutal massacre, with 24 falling to arrows. The rest were victim to the fearless Yari Ashigaru.

After a long day, one can only wonder what the next move may be by the Shimazu clan, but it has only just begun...

The Chosokabe clan spotted stragglers from the Ichijo clan, and battle was initiated with utmost haste. This was to be The Battle of Tosa Fields 1545. With dry weather conditions, the province of Tosa was the ideal battle ground for the small conflict.

Chosokabe deployed 30 cavalry headed by General Kira Masayo, 1 score 20 Yari Samurai, 3 score Yari Ashigaru and 1 score 20 Chosokabe Bow Ashigaru. They deployed from the south split into two smaller forces; the distraction force, and the flanking force. The Ichijo clan deployed a mere 45 Cavarly, 1 score 50 Yari Ashigaru and 1 score 20 Bow Ashigaru.

As battle commenced, brave general Masayo taunted the Ichijo warriors leading to them immediately seeking higher ground. Sun Tzu had taught them well. They were outnumbered, but with higher ground they had a distinct advantage. To combat this the Chosokabe clan advanced archers protected by a battalion of Yari Ashigaru to the eastern side of the hill. The bait triggered a charge from the reckless Ichijo general, and the cavarly was swiftly taken care of. As the Ichijo bow Ashigaru rained down a hail of arrows, the rest of the Chosokabe army charged. They had gone unnotitced on the western side of the hill and had a clear charge. The Ichijo general survived the battle, but was immediately wiped out in the following Chosokabe offensive.

A short, but decisive battle. Victory was with the Chosokabe clan this day...

WEATHER: RAINY

Yet again, another battle staged in Tosa was to be fought - this time however in hilly terrain! The Chosokabe army still strong, was this time facing against the army of the Iyo Clan. 3 large Yari Ashigaru battalions, 2 cavalry units, and a battalion of Bow Ashigaru were to be fought against.

The Chosokabe clan initated battle in defensive positions. Remembering Sun Tzu's teachings [cited at the start of the battle log] a battalion of Yari Ashigaru positioned atop a hill, infront of a battion of Bow Ashigaru. On the western side of the hill, 2 Yari Ashigaru battalions and a sizable unit of Yari Samurai prepared for a flanking maneuvure in a classic 'Hammer and Anvil' formation. Although a seemingly weak anvil (a mere 1 score 20 Yari Ashigaru!) the natural advantages of ground made these spear weilding warriors even more deadly! And no cavarly would dare charge a battalion of Yari Ashigaru up a hill! This ensured the safety of the Bow Ashigaru nestled behind them.

As expected the cavarly of the Iyo clan charged forward, baited by General Masayo on the Western side. The flanks of the cavalry were wide open to attack from the formidable Yari Ashigaru! With a defiant roar they were destroyed. Meanwhile, the enemies Yari Ashigaru charged up the hill, leaving flanks wide open for Yari Samurai and Yari Ashigaru attack. One battalion of Iyo cavalry tried to aid the battle, but were quickly destroyed. Finally, cavalry reinforcements led by Commander Kunichika charged into the bow Ashigaru destroying them. In the following turns the Chosokabe army followed the Iyo survivors, mowing down the remaining troops.

Now all that lies ahead is a mighty seige upon the Iyo clan...

In crossing salt-marshes, your sole concern should be to get over them quickly, without any delay.

The Chosokabe finally arrived on the Iyo doorstep. The Iyo army largely destroyed left little to defend the fort. A mere 1 score 50 Yari Ashigaru, and 45 Samurai Retainers were led by their mounted General. However, the Chosokabe commander noticed a key weakness the in the Iyo defence; a lack of ranged troops! In a largely prolonged battle, the 4 battalions of ranged units (Around 3 score 50 Bow Ashigaru, and 80 Samurai Ashigaru) laid waste to most units, avoiding all building damage.

After most troops had been safely disposed of, the the 11 score 23 troops made a move toward entering the fort. The Iyo clan had a mere handful of men remaining at this point, dwindled down from the meagre 225 in the starting force. Needless to say, annihilation ensued.

A good day for the Chosokabe clan! Victory, and a new province to reign over! Kono is now finally theirs!

The Chosokabe force made a bold move this day; to cut ties with the Miyoshi clan, and declare war. As a mighty army of Chosokabe soliders marched into the Awa province, battle begun.

The Miyoshi clan fielded a sizable army of 9 score 15 troops; this consisted of 6 score Tari Ashigaru (divided into battaltions of 150 each), 2 score 40 Bow Ashigaru, 45 light cavalry, and the General with his dedicated Cavalry unit. However, the Chosokabe clan had arrived with 21 score 16 troops by comparison; the advantage of numbers was with the Chosokabe clan this day.

This battle would go down in history as the Battle of Takamatsu. The autumn leaves carpeted thefloor of the battlefield; terrain was to neither clans advantage. The Chosokabe deployed many units of archers at the rear, all guarded by a dedicated yari unit. General Kunichika sat at the back with his dedicated cavalry unit waiting for the sole Bow Ashigaru unit to become exposed.

The Miyoshi clan made steady a steady advance, seeking to gain the charge bonus. However, as soon as they entered range a mighty cloud of death fell from the sky where the Bow Ashigaru and Bow Samurai had let loose their arrows. Much of the army was destroyed by the time the Yari Ashigaru and Yari Samurai counter charge had been initated. Spears clashed and much blood was shed this day. The Miyoshi general and Cavalry units swiftly fell; and General Kunichika made short work of the enemy Bow Ashigaru.

A glorious victory for the Chosokabe clan! Now they march on to the fort in Awa - how long will it be until all of Shikoku is theirs?!
