The good the bad and the ugly

Combat Butler
I was wondering about the anime shows that spilts the audience down the middle. The shows that come to mind for me are natruo, bleach, dragonball z, sailor moon, and eva! I was was wondering what are the good and bad points of each show that make you guys like or hate it! i think that this is worth dicussing! :D

Splitting the audience down the middle eh? One need look no further than moe titles. They always succeed in etching deep rifts into the fanbase.
Regarding particular exhibits of such a genre, many a time have I resorted to 'agreeing to disagree' with the views of fellow forumites, in order to prevent conversation turning afoul.

I thought Eva was ok but I didn't like Shinji moaning all the time about everything :p and I really didn't like the huge block of philosophy and religious subtext at the end (I've seen both endings), it just made me get tired of watching it. Definitely overrate, many people talk about it like it the greatest anime ever created

Lucky Star is good, would you class that as moe? It fit into this topic well because I know lots of people don't like it while many others do. Try it an see ^_^

I have heard good things about it but i am hoping andrew from beez can license it in this country first! what do you guys think of the natruo vs bleach debate?

Bleach.

Just watch Bleach.

Also- if you need more shounen, then watch the best; The Prince of Tennis

Heck- it's not hugely surprising, no shounen is, but it's fantastic.

I honestly can't provide a particually unbias view on Bleach vs Naruto, as I've never seen a Naruto episode and only own one volume of the manga. A while back I bought volume one of Bleach and Naruto, and I thought Bleach came out on top by miles.

I loved the art style and I found the characters far more interesting then those in Naruto, who I thought felt a little cliched and uniteresting (of course, I'm sure there is more to them - this was just from a single volume).

hmm hard to say why Naruto is so successful. It builds up the background of the characters (through flashbacks) so you get to know them and you see their reasons for being the way they are, you start wanting them to succeed. You see them learn from their mistakes, and improving, starting from weak straight out of training to becoming strong - character development.

Fights are fun to watch, always a lot going on in them and everyone has their own very wildly varying skills. Heh ninjas who can control sand, animals, illusion, fire etc...

Plenty of trials and ordeals along the way and fun breaks in the main story lines.

I've read that people don't like the breaks, probably because sometimes they are long long breaks. Also I've read people don't like the flashbacks because they can happen a lot in the middle of fights and draw fights out.

Not sure if I've explained correctly or not - Feel free to ignore :p

Good: OH ****, new season of Hajime no Ippo!?
Bad: The director of the old series is not working on it, WHAT!?
Ugly: The animation for the New Challenger, seriously.

Oh and the best Shounen is probably Hunter X Hunter, unless you -need- fights that never end.

i already am watching bleach. just wondering about natruo! :D will try and import prince of tennis! sounds different!

The later episodes of bleach have really repetitive disco music troughout, the most hate-able main character I've ever seen in a shonen anime and eventually ends ups recycling plots from earlier episodes
(The most cliche subplot ever created in fact)
and anything that was actually cool in the manga is cut out in the anime version.

Naruto is far superior it uh doesn't uh do any of those things well at least uh in a much less obvious way

Slam dunk > Prince of tennis

I have the first 21 volumes of these and i am up to date with the latest Bleach episode and have finished Naruto. I'm currently upto Ep.58 of Shippuden and at this point i feel that Manga-wise Naruto shades it, but anime-wise i would say Bleach was the better of the two, as the filler arcs tend to be better than the Naruto filler.
