The Cat Returns

Just watched the dubbed version on Film4, never seen it before and really enjoyed it. Love the characters, especially Moota the fat cat. I love the story too and found it ran at a good pace without feeling slow. The voices went well too, including the upper class Baron.

Two of the best things about the dubbed version in my opinion are the voice options on Haru (Anne Hathaway) which seemed to suit the personallity and character really well. And The Kings Voice (Tim Curry), I have one rule when it comes to Tim Curry, he is one of the best over the top bad guys and must be watched at all times.

Only one thing annoyed me was the Crows voice, I expected something raspy but they went for the deep voiced Elliot Gould which annoyed me.

IF anyone has seen the subbed version, how did the voices compare?

I enjoyed Cat as well, It was a really smooth anime to get into after watching some more of the good but frantic episodes of Naruto. I think it's been mentioned that the sub is on the 7th? I'll also watch it, but I did enjoy the dub, did you notice Kristen (Veronica Mars) Bell also voiced Hiromi?

Oooo, I watched it too. I will be keeping an eye out for a good priced copy of it on DVD now. ^_^ Loved it.

I liked the crow's (Todo?) voice. ^_^

I thought it was a great anime to watch, especially since i was away with my family (who hate anime) and there was nothing else to watch, so not only did i get to see a quality anime for free i've finally got my parents into it aswell!

yay

Ooh, I have the DVD.

I love this anime, realy light-hearted and always puts a smile on my face when I watch it.

I also love the music, the main riff of the trumpet really gets me for some reason.

The subbed version is good, although I can't really say as I'm not vry good at comparing sub with dub. Personally, I prefered the dub.

It's an enjoyable film. Hardly a brilliant one, but enjoyable. The 1 volume Manga is good fun too. Having now seen Whisper of the Heart, it's nice to revisit the characters of Baron and Muta, and in a way, it's like revisiting Shizuku's imagination too! That said, I adore Whisper of the Heart far more than I ever will this film, but then they're two VERY different films anyway.

I notice that the Radio Times label it as a two star film. Oh well. I think it's a three star film that will endear itself to cat lovers, ghibli fans and small children. Or people with the minds of small children. Yes, like me.

I love the cat returns, another great ghibli. The Baron is great (one of many reasons i love whisper of the heart also) even saw it in the cinema!

Though i have one 'slight' complaint, perhaps not even a complaint really, just an observation. The plot in general terms, and many of the themes, are rather reminicent of Spirited Away....

Ha, already posted this in my previous thread but c'est la vie...

Another beautiful Ghibli film with quality animation, sweet story and plenty of fantasy and humour. The cat parade creeped me out, the maze was an anti-climax and I would have liked some background on the Baron, but apart from that it was very entertaining and I'm missing it already (I really need to get these films on DVD).

Speaking of Ghibli films on DVD, you can get any two for £14 online at Choices now.

I really need to see Whisper of the Heart now.
