OMG! Has anyone else seen this? and what did you think?

I watched up to episode 7 last night and I gotta admit I was freaked big time. I wanted to watch more but it was 2.30am by the time I got to the end of ep.7 and my bed was calling

I am really hoping there is more explanation of what has gone on in the past in this anime, as at the moment I can't figure that bit out.
I wasn't sure I would like it when I first started watching it, the first episode was a bit too weird for me, but the second episode guaranteed I would watch it all, talk about addictive!!

I heard great things about this serie so i cant wait for it to come out in june to see if they are true. MVM got so many great serie this year. :)

I love Texhnolyze. It's by far my favourite series from the 'Lain' team. The premise is awesome- people living in an underground city, forgotton and isolated by the above civilization for years.

It's very clustrophobic and weird, yet manages to make interesting comments about human nature and our evolution. Yoshii is one of the freakiest characters in anime, ever. His sudden, 'puppet master' personality change and icey dialogue sent a shiver down my spine.

The soundtrack is magnificent too, especially the ending theme- it seems to capture the atmostphere perfectly.

I can't wait to watch it again, I'm sure a lot of the story went over my head the first time (not to mention some dodgy fansub translations). It's a frustratingly cryptic series and every answer seems to develop three more questions.
I'm sure it will piss off a lot of people due to it's lack of willingness to give an easy answer, but I would happily lump Texhnolyze in with the finest anime of the last 5 years.

Paul, I've been wanting to check this series out, but how many episodes are there so far?

And where did you get it from? Is it fansubbed?

I'm asking because animenfo.com lists the total episodes as "-" (how very useful!). The anime dvd-ripping IRC chan I'm part of has a Texhnolyze bot, with the first 4 episodes with dual audio, so I might check that out.

I watched 3 more episodes last night and there was a "special" that was trying to explain what had happened so far. I found I had to stop after 3 episodes and watch something more light hearted (Get Backers :D ).

I'm beginning to understand what Paul meant about Yoshi being freaky!
Although the story is dark and heavy, I am rather looking forward to the ending - just hoping it has one!!

Yeah, I would find it hard to watch too much of Texhnolyze in one day. Not that it's just very dark and bleak- every episode seems to require somekind of philosophical thinking.

I remember the 'kind of' recap and explanation. I found the story premise and ideas behind the whole Lux city really interesting, so a lot of that stuff was like gold dust to me.

While Texhnolyze seems to have fallen under the radar of a lot of anime fans, I expect it grow in popularity over time in the same way that Lain is now considered a cult classic.

OK, so the mad woman stayed up all night and watched the rest of Texhnlyze

If anyone who hasn't watched it is reading this, you have to see this anime. OMG! what an ending, I didn't know how I felt after I finished listening to Gackt singing at the end of ep.22 but this was one of the most moving and scary anime I have EVER watched :?

Miaka - you should check out this fansite, it contains some thinkings and ideas about the series: http://texhnolyze.deep-river.net/

Gackt - 'Poem of the moon' is perhaps my favourite anime ending theme. I loved how the ending animation suddenly switched into this awesome CG character 'nailed' to the wall, mouthing the song lyrics.

Thanks for that link Paul, quite interesting.
Believe it or not, but I didn't find myself asking questions like "well, what was that all about?"!! I understood it all pretty well (even with the naff subtitles!!), it was haunting and sad but not in a "well why did it have to end that way?" way.
It is definitely a watch again anime :D

Tell me now, for someone who likes deep (and disturbing / strange / unorthodox etc.) fiction, would this be good for me? I've read some reviews and get all excited about it...

If you enjoyed Innocence, you'd probably like Texhnolyze. Its a fairly prententuous cyber-punk anime that requires a lot of work on the viewers part. Futher more, its bleak and can get depressing... I love it though, and it has a wonderful industrial soundtrack and some great sci-fi art. Not a series for everyone, though.

Cheers for the feedback. I'm sold on this one. I'm paid this week so I'll get a few volumes. And you may have read in the 'G.I.T.S. 2: Innocence' thread that I rate that movie some what highly, and I like bleak themes(I'm not a goth though, I 'm a realist :? :D  ).

I also like Hovis but that's for another day. I love my chin too...
