since arbys currently away beating up his laptop i supose it's up to me to set things off

Today sees the launch of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann(Part 1) The most random anime i've seen to date, and enjoyed

I'll fill some more in if i can think of it, but for now, over to you

Personally I quite liked the show, but I don't think id deserved all the hype it got. Although that could just be that giant robot type shows are not my thing.

PIERCE THE HEAVENS! (And all that ********)

I might buy it, but there are other things of higher priority, plus the price is a little steep.

DO THE IMPOSSIBLE, SEE THE INVISIBLE, ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWA!!!

"It changed my life; it made me into more of a man. After watching the series, I believed I could do anything!" - TTGL tard #1

"Before watching, I'd never had the guts to ask a girl out. After watching, I did. I now have a son, and I called him Kamina the Second." TTGL tard #2

"It's quite simply the best anime out there, better than even Naruto." - TTGL tard #3

"I liked it - it was a fairly enjoyable ride - but it was simplistic and had one of the worst endings ever. The amount of retards who give it 10/10 cause me a lot of mental pain." - God

Not being funny right, but if I buy NEO MAG this month and this quote isn't in the review I'm gonna be pissed.

"GunBuster? GaoGaiGar? GETTER ROBO? Who needs them when you have TTGL?" Some guy from MAL.

"Episode 8 is the epitome of tragic when it comes to anime. IT WAS TOO SOON." - Myself in 2007. (Not really.)

If it's released today, then how come everywhere has it down as being released on the 6th July?

At the time i put the themed week in the topic named as such, the release date was still this week, however it was pushed back to the 6th of July more recently so thats why the themed week is now. A lot of release dates being moved around here and there has mucked a thing or two around with the themed weeks as of late, but i haven't had a laptop working(until now, woohoo) to sort it. but there we go, I'll set up the one up next and such properly, perhaps on one which is already released so that we don't have this problem again. I'm still unsure on the Gundam 00 release after all, so i'll see if Sir Andrew can shed some light on the matter.

I kind of liked the change from a more serious mobile suit series (Code Geass/Gundam etc), with the super-imposed and unrealistic designs of the suits. It was something I could watch in a more relaxed state and expect corny punchlines repeated over and over again, like a classic mecha/comedy show.

The 1st season was better than the second, but it didnt put me off watching it to the end. It's a series that has enough sparks of life to keep the interest, of which the end of the 2nd season was numbed by the Matryoshka doll style super GL.

I think the best thing about it was how the art comes to life (especially the colours). I.e. Nia's eyes (unusual iris etc) and hair colour, rainbow explosions, etc. That's my personal taste though.

Ahha, well that answers that nicely. :D

I ignored this series for a long time because it was so ridiculously overhyped by people online. Once the completely unreasonable hype had started to fade and the next big thing reared its head, I decided to give it a shot (after all, I'm a GAINAX slave). I bought the R1s as they came out to support the initial sub-only double packs and their cheapness.

Even then I was expecting it to really suck, like most series which get a lot of attention online. However I did end up really liking TTGL. The way it constantly chooses ridiculousness over common sense and the lively (if not always terrifically deep) characters got my attention and we ended up watching each DVD set as soon as it arrived; a rarity in my backlogged household. I particularly loved the fanservice episode. I think if I actually knew someone like Kamina I'd want to strangle them within five minutes. Fortunately almost everything in this show is so intentionally and unashamedly stupid that he worked really well.

I think my favourite characters were Leeron, Viral, Kamina and Kittan's mech.

Since I've missed a few of these weeks now due to lack of interest in the series I'll atone by changing my avatar again. It was tempting to pick Rossiu to go with how some users here seem to see me but Viral was too cute to pass over.

lol @ the facht my 'quotes' weren't far off the mark.

In other news, the TTGL tards on MAL have managed to get LotGH to drop from #1 to #50-something by creating dup accounts and rating it 1/10. That's like TDK tards on IMDB creating accounts in order to rate The Godfather 1/10.

I want to like TTGL, but its fans make thinking of it highly a difficult task. Because of them, I look down on anyone who rates the series 10/10 and ranks it in their top five.

The TTGL fans and TDK fans are the exact same people, I did things like then when I was like... thirteen.

Rainbow, you should have posted the cap where it's confirmed TTGL stole its basic storyline from Breath of Fire: V. Btw Rui's avatar is awesome.
