Tenchi Muyo (All series)

Vampire Ninja
I was looking into a new anime to watch and this one sprung up quite a bit. I remember seeing a few episodes back when it was on Cartoon Network many years ago (think it was that channel). But i was wondering if it really is worth watching? What is your thoughts about it?

In my opinion Techi is a great series but only if you know what parts to watch

for example even being a massive tenchi fan i'd only reconmend watching the original OAV, Tenchi Universe and Tenchi GXP as the 3rd OAV and Tenchi in Tokyo aren't worth the time of day

WATCH IT

Tenchi is one of, if not, the greatest anime legacies, the beginning and best scripted harem animes mixed with action and a great story, each series is different in its way of telling stories.

I love all the series, but the spinoff GXP is still one of my all time faves as it weas the first one I saw.

Hmm okie, cheers everyone :D think i may take a quick look. What order should they be watched in tho? theres so many different ones! :p

Tenchi Muyo was kinda meh for me. I was bored and it seemed rather cliche.

I don't know how something that practically started a genre could be cliche.

Go watch Tenchi, although i'm biased. Brilliant series with good characters and a fantastic script.

Never been a better time to get into the series, with cheap box sets and MVM have released the 3 movies in a set too. If you have any questions i more than likely could answer them.

Didn't notice this post. All the series use the same characters except put a different spin on the story. I would recommend you watch them in this order;

Tenchi Muyo! OVA 1 (6 episodes)
Tenchi Muyo OVA 2 (7 episodes)
Then you have the Mihoshi Special

Tenchi Universe is next which is a 26 episode tv series

Then Tenchi in Tokyo which is another 26 episode series with the same characters. Everything was reworked in this series, character designs story. So most don't like it, but if you think of it as only having some similarities it's still a decent show to watch.

There is another 7 episode OVA, OVA3. Which takes place after OVA 2 but it isn't released in the U.K yet so if you wanted to watch that it would be import. Then there are the three movies.

There is alot of material in the Tenchi franchise but it's still good none the less. The dub cast is one of my favourites, the characters voices just suit perfectly.

Tenchi in Tokyo was horrible. Daughter of the Darkess is probably the best movie out of the three, IMO.

I agree Daughter of Darkness is definately the best of the movies

First one for me. While DoD has one of my favourite scenes of the franchise in it, it was too short and because of this it suffered greatley. The soundtrack was also rubbish compared to the others.

It's not bad, but it's not great either.

What Exactly is in the Tenchi OVA Box Set and what isnt then because it seems like a lot of things are missing

Link to The Box Set is here-
http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/742331/Tenchi-Muyo-OVAs-Box-Set/Product.html

That box set is the OVA box set which contains OVA 1 and 2, the 13 episodes. OVA 3 is actually another 7 episode series but it hasn't been released here yet. In that you also get the Mihoshi Special, which you only get released with this box set. In the states it was released with the Pretty Sammy box set, Pretty Sammy is also another spin off from the Tenchi Franchise based around the Pretty Sammy character.

Universe and Tokyo are sold seperatley.

There is also another series called Dual! which was again created by Masaki Kajishima. This is said to be Tenchi in an alternate universe, character from this series also make cameo appearances in GXP and vice versa.

I didn't say anything about the harem element. I'm talking about the events leading up to the end. It was so damn predictable I nearly gave up on it.

Right then, Here's a link for you, watch out though, as by it's nature it contains mini spoilers. :D

http://www.astronerdboy.com/tenchi/Section 1/FAQ-2.html#cont

I posted that in another Tenchi thread ages ago, but it's disappeared into the wilderness somewhere.

That will either sort out all your questions or make your head explode, so be careful. :p

But in answer to your what do you get first, as others have said - start off with the OVA box set, it has OVA 1, OVA 2 and the two specials - The Night Before The Carnival and Mihoshi Special: Galaxy Police Mihoshi's space adventure!

I love watching Tenchi Muyo! and keep going back to it time after time.

Got the box set with the Mihoshi Special, thinking it was somthing I'd not seen. Hah, it was included with the original VHS release that Pioneer LDCE did over here. Still v.good though :)

Isn't it Revelation Films who have the release rights for TGP & the third part of the Tenchi Muyo! OVA over here??

MVM did have them when Funimation done thier distributing through them but you are correct. Revelation Films do have the distribution rights for GXP and Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki. However they have not set a release date for Ryo-Ohki which is really annoying because i want the box set but i don't want to import it just yet.

We won't be seeing Tenchi Universe or Tenchi in Tokyo released in the U.K. as MVM's licensing for the series expires in the summer and there is not enough time for them to release it. The last and latest Tenchi release from them is the three movies box set with the extra encyclopedia DVD. Which also means the OVA box set + Mihoshi special from MVM goes out of print in the summer, i would advise anyone that has seen and enjoyed the Tenchi series to buy it while they can.

Haha, oh snap. Play.com now have the Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki 3 DVD box set available to pre order Due for release on 23/07/2007.

To say i'm happy is an understatement.
