Super Robot Wars question

I've been wondering for a long time whether I should buy the Super Robot Wars W on DS, and was wondering if anyone would mind answering a few questions before I buy it, I'd greatly appreciate it, and if you're willing to, here's what I wanna know;

Since the series is an RPG and has a storyline which is intertwined with different series crossing over, will this effect me in playing the game?

How hard is it to navigate/get used to the control scheme and game system itself? With the language barrier and all.

And I know it's an RPG/Strategy game, but does it play well?

That's all I gotta ask, and now I'll wait and hope for someone to reply. : D
 
The game is more Strategy than RPG, think of the control systems like advance wars, fire emblem and such. With series like Mazinger, Gaogaigar, Full Metal Panic and the sort in the game, it doesn't really affect the gameplay or views on it.

W does play well, but like many games on the DS, you don't need to use the touch screen, you can use the d-pad and buttons instead, even though there is the language barrier there isn't too much to worry about when it comes to gameplay, its straightforward, but you will need to recognise a few symbols for certain section, like where to level up/upgrade your mechas. It took me roughly a couple hours to get used to the menus and such, but after that it was easy going.
