I would recommend Dad's Army, Porridge, Rising Damp and Only Fools and Horses from that list. As others have posted, Red Dwarf is good if you like Sci-fi/comedy and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is well worth getting (note - the various media of book, film, radio show and tv series are all slightly different with Hitchhiker's).

As you like Monty Python why not try Ripping Yarns. It is a nine episode series written by Michael Palin and Terry Jones.
