Studio 4c's Anti-Smoking Video

If you don't know Studio 4c (four degrees) is known for making shorts which use very colourful and weird character designs which aren't seen very often. They had made a full-length movie called 'Mind Game' as well so check that out

But they've made a 10-15min interactive anime about not smoking, I found it's really good as the short didn't force the idea of disease but the connotations of a smoker. Interactive things are a bit weird butt still fun

Subbed in English and Legal found from ANN

It's about 10mins, so if you don't like it, it's not like you've not wasted a long time

Hmm. Things you'll never see No. 4079: A non-judgemental cost-benefit analysis of smoking.

Let's be honest here. It is expensive (but only due to government taxation) and may well cause horrific health problems, but is also enjoyable and sexy. There's something disturbing about modern society's vilification of smokers... they might not be healthy but it's their damn choice to make. They'll start on fat people next, mark my words.

I'll presume you're trolling and ignore you, ayase.

The film itself has an interesting aesthetic, but I really couldn't even be bothered enough to click on the thing once it became "interactive". Maybe later.

Agreement here.

Never been a smoker but I've never held it against anyone who is. I liked the style of the video, but demonizing smokers isn't the way to go about warning people of the dangers. The health risks should certainly be made clear (and last time I checked, they are), but I can't see a patronising interactive video doing much to change people's minds.

I hate smokers purely because they insist on doing it around me. In a big city I can't go more than a few metres without inhaling putrid smoke. Unfortunately there's no way to opt out if someone lights up next to you, and telling them to at least please *stand next to the other smokers* so you can avoid them effectively and get on with your breathing doesn't make a difference.

If smokers on the whole acted with more awareness and civility, they'd be demonised much less for their voluntary self-destruction.

Smokers don't have a monopoly on being inconsiderate, selfish bastards though. I don't hate everyone who owns a mobile phone simply because a lot of people annoy me by talking loudly into them in my presence. Granted, they aren't damaging my physical health but it does stop me from enjoying my life the way I'd like to. Everyone should be judged individually, not for any one single characteristic they happen to share with others.

I smoked, now I don't. I stopped because I don't want to die horribly. I don't consider myself strong for having quit (which is how society likes to portray it); I consider myself a coward too frightened by the prospect of my own mortality to continue to do something I personally found enjoyable.

That's true, mobile abusers (and lately more so than ever, people who seem to listen to their MP3 players at 500 decibels...) are also rude and disruptive. I much prefer Japan's public transport in that respect, where it's exceptionally rare to see anyone bellowing into a mobile phone about their latest sexual conquests 10cm from your ear on a train.

Though at least they are only assaulting my ears (and sometimes simply getting in the way due to their complete lack of awareness) as opposed to screwing up my lungs :/

I have a policy of judging all people who stand in built-up public places smoking around me, because they are making my life worse by existing. Smokers who do so in a polite, considerate way are fine and chances are, I'll never notice that they're even a smoker at all unless they mention it.

While we're listing broad, sweeping groups of people we don't like (what do you mean "that's not what we're doing"?) I would like to add people who use facebook, people who listen to current chart music, men who watch "reality" TV (anything from Big Brother ga Miteiru to Dancing with the Stars on Ice), people who don't take their plates out to the kitchen/can't eat or drink without dribbling stuff on their desk (these are usually the same people), people who drive at a small but significant amount either above or below the speed limit seemingly just to make sure they get in the way as much as possible when overtaking/being overtaken, people who own dogs as pets, people who use the telephone for anything other than vitally important conversations, people who can't tell Coca Cola and Pepsi apart, people who don't know the differences between McDonalds and Burger King's menus, people who like weird colors, people who "can't" cook... OK, I'll stop there.

Yeah. Lung cancer and yellow teeth are such a turn on.

Being mildly annoyed by something isn't comparable to enduring something that will give you health problems.

I have a mate that smokes, and we get along great. He smokes away from everyone else and he doesnt bother me at all.

I've had that problem with the whole -walk down the road with a random smoker in front of you- ordeal... What's wrong with just standing to the side where you're stationary and then blow the puff upwards, rather than in our faces?

Never toutched a cigarette, as I've always been aware of the health and mental issues with it. I've never been immensely popular, so I never got pressured into it either (to cover the whole "it's sexy/cool" aspect.) To go a bit further, I thought sugar lolipops were the thing that makes girls 'sexy'... At least it doesn't hook ya or gives any major heart disease. I just see other alternatives to lighting a fag to do things like feel good, show a certain appearance etc.

I dont like to throw my views on others to change their minds. If they say they like the kick they get from a smoke, I aint going to say anything other than why I dont like it myself.

@Rui - Well, if I'm gonna listen to music to my own volume level (if that's high), I go to the place as far as everyone as possible. Just in case that I would annoy people sitting next to or near me. You cant listen to heavy metal on a low volume and enjoy it, I'm afraid. :p

As for the vid, I found it interesting. It was your typical "smoke and die" propaganda, but the story/art wasnt bad. Good way to spend 10mins on.

I have had asthma since a young age, so I have never felt like having a smoke.

As long as it doesn't affect me, I don't care if other people choose to smoke. Worst part about where I work is that there are some people who insist on smoking by the front door - not nice for a non-smoker if you want to enter/leave the building.

Smoking is sexy though, it makes people look all cool and dark and mysterious...... and sexy. Though upon saying that I''ve never seen many sexy women who smoke.
So which is it? Is it sexy or not? Your post doesn't make a point, stu.

They always seem to listen to tinny pop music and r&b on my train. I'd be far less offended if they had some good music to thrash to going on :)

(It may of course just be that the earbud effect makes anything sound like The Cheeky Girls no matter how awesome it originally was; I cannot say for sure...)

Oh, smoking makes people gradually less attractive for sure, but then time will do that for you anyway.

Live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse. I'm not brave enough to live like that, but women who are are probably my biggest turn-on.
