Well first things first, a new hobby brings a lot of questions to the newbie. Many of these are basic and generic questions but to anyone just looking to start collecting anime they may seem daunting. In this small review I will sharing my first time experience with import DVD's. After looking around Google for somewhere to buy anime I stumbled across discountanimedvd.com
Now with UK DVD prices dropping and new releases coming out from distributors every month many people may wonder "is it really worth importing anime?" in short, from this experience. Yes it is.
I will now cover the all important three P's - Price, Product, Packaging. With this order I didn't pussy foot around, I bought $110 worth of goods (around about £65) It may seem a bit high to splash out on your first experience with a business but in this case it paid off.
Price 5/5 - The products i bought were the following Tenchi Muyo - Ultimate edition, Tenchi Movie Collection, Tenchi Universe and Tenchi in Tokyo. All in the box set variety. The price on these items i found were good compared to thier UK counterparts. To buy the ultimate edition here is almost double what i paid in dollars and the same goes for the Movie Collection.
Now this is where importing really looks great. Due to the current license on Tenchi products being terminated in the summer the Universe and Tokyo box sets won't be available to buy here. But since these were original imports and region free they will load up in any DVD player. Both can be had for £15 each in discountanimedvd.com's sale.
Product 4/5 - When I opened received the items in my order the products were exactly how I imagined them. The descriptions on discountanimedvd.com's homepage, While vague on the slightly less popular products, still covers important details and supplies enough information to make sure you are buying the product you want.
However unlike most other orders I have there wasn't any freebies or similar. I've noticed a trend over the last few years of companies adding in a catalogue with upcoming products and special deals in the future but nothing here. Again it may seem nit picking but it's nice to know what a business is planning on doing.
Packaging 4/5 - With this being an international order i was expecting a mammoth box to be delivered by a struggling postman. Fortunately that was not the case. The packaging used by discountanimedvd.com is of a high standard. Double corrugated cardboard was used along with polystyrene 8's to ensure that all the items were protected and I’m glad to say it lived up to its job.
Do be wary of the shipping charges. I recommend using the USPS International delivery, on an order this size it cost $30 (£15) but that does provide you with a tracking number (does not include insurance)
Overall I give discountanimedvd.com 4/5 - With good prices and a vast range of products you will sure to find something you like at a fantastic price. The only thing I would advise looking out for is the regions you intend do buy as they do carry all of them. Support emails all answered within 2 hours with most questions covered. Good for first time buyers and avid anime fans.
