Today, the Japanese <em>Sports Nippon</em> newspaper has announced that the hit anime series <em>Space Battleship Yamato</em> (known overseas as <em>Star Blazers</em>) is set to receive a Hollywood movie, which will be produced by Skydance Productions (<em>Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol</em>, <em>World War Z</em>). Christopher McQuarrie (<em>Jack Reacher</em>, <em>Mission: Impossible 5</em>) is currently slated to direct the feature, with Shoji Nishizaki, the adopted son of <em>Space Battleship Yamato</em> producer Yoshinobu Nishizaki listed as an executive producer.
The movie is expected to enter production after the completion of <em>Mission: Impossible 5</em> and is expected to be released in 2017.
