Spyro's ****** Art

Sup guys. I figured since some of you here are immense with Photoshop you could give me some advice. I gotta do a 10 hour exam on Tuesday-Wednesday, and figured any last minute advice to improve my work would help dramatically. So like yeah- Here's one of my pieces of Re-l Mayer from Ergo Proxy.

I think I prefer it without the text though =/

I'm not going to lie to you bro, **** sux.

Take off the text and it'll look better, keep trying though. Try some tutorials.

I know. Thats why im hoping someone can point me in a good direction for tutorials etc.

And thankfully, this is only for my GCSE exam. You'd be surprised how little you need to do at GCSE.

I still dont like it, but there it is without text.

OH and btw. I've only been using Photoshop since 25th Feb. In the other thread, PSPX2 died on me, so i've had to learn to use Photoshop from scratch. I'm very new to all this stuff.

All help appreciated :)

I like the vibrant colour contrast you've picked a lot, and the choice of picture.

I don't like the door outline(?) above her head - if you blind the swirlies into that a bit more so it is forced farther back I think it will give it all a much more surreal look and feel like she's framed more clearly. The darkness of the door can stay, it's just the horizontal line looks a little weird against the more curvy feel almost everything else has.

Also the remnants of weird text over the gun :)

I know absolutely nothing about art by the way.

R

Okay I pulled one of the background layers out that was making the swirl under the gun barrel to strong, and added a new layer into the top left to fill the space a bit. I also got rid of the text that Rui pointed out

Oh, I moved the larger, blurred Re-l across a bit, and editted her size slighty.

Better/Worse??

On the detail parts (on the original render not the blurry one), get the blur tool and select it very small. Then carefully go around the edges on her hair and around the edges of the gun. Also blur the gun a little and see how it looks..

Yeah that looks better to me :)

I'll run away now that the people with actual artistic knowledge are chipping in.

Haha. Thanks.

No need to run off mind. Y'know, everyone's opinion counts. If you know nothing about politics, you can still have an opinion, and that opinion can still be respected.

Thing is, i'm mainly learning from a friend of mine giving me some advice, cause he's immense with CS4, so i'm gonna changing/adding frequently. At least until next Tuesday...

This thraed ain't as ****** as you made out!

It's not for me to honest Spyro. Think it's the colour. Definately better without the writting (that writting at least) anddefinately a better version in you last post of the picture. (Was going to point out the random writting that was creaping in but you fixed it.)

Ever thought of adding a second Re-I to the picture, on the left hand maybe... It's feeling a bit empty to me. Looks like it'd make a good desktop tho. ^^

heh funnily enough the thread title is very similar to Kurogane's art thread :p

Anyway onto the pictures, the newer ones you've put up are a lot better then the first ones, but unless your going to end up with this piece as a desktop you may want to work on your composition a bit, so just look at other people's works and see what they've done. As far as progress with CS is concerned you're doing a great job so far :p just play around more with the different effects and you should ace your exam :)

I could try adding another Re-l. I think for that il need to move the current one to the right though. I also I hated the writting too. I just generally like to put some text into my work. I'm after some good fonts, if you've any to reccomend. And yeah- The writting is totally fixed 8)

 Sadly the res is way too low to be a desktop though, eh.

Difference is Kurogane knows his **** with Art/Photoshop ;)

I'l make it clear, its not gonna be a desktop. This is just 'A Final Piece Idea'. And i'm glad you think i'm doing okay with CS :)

The guy I know who's been giving me some advice has said to add more blur to Re-l, and since he knows his ****, i'll be trying that later (If I get time between my other coursework -.-) and i'll post it up.

As for the choice of colour, it's because the subject is 'War', I decided red suited the task more (Since red obivously is symbollic of anger, blood, rage, etc.) Though maybe, it'd be interesting to try using a blue?

I'm also currently fishing out renders for another piece. Sadly though, Motoko is hard to come by, and I dont have time to be cutting myself right now.

Updates.

I tried centering Re-l too.

That's better Spyro. It looks cleaner when the blur isn't as intense. Still feels a little empty to me, but that's probably because the space will be filled with icons if it's now being designed as a desktop. Not a huge fan of the colour but that's just my opinion, not that it looks bad.
Nice work. :thumb:

Sadly its not being designed as a desktop, its being designed as a picture. Thing is i'm not experienced enough to be too good at knowing how to add in an extra character. I wanna try and my basic techniques better first. I done something else on the Schools Photoshop (Elements -.- Its such a let down from CS3) and will upload it soon.

Much better - choosing a pose which fills most of the image helps a lot. Good work :)

Wow. I'm honoured you'd even look at my thread  Your ace with art. You wont belive how nice it is to know you liked it. Thanks!

//Edit// Since the picture is lost on the previous page, i'm just gonna put it on the end of this post too for your convienience.

Yeah that looks better.. Have you tried reflecting the character and then fading it away into transparency? You could reflect it onto the right so they're facing each other, then have the one on the right fade into the background from left to right (something like 80% opacity on the left side of the character to 10% opacity on the far right side of the character?) so it fades into the wallpaper like a reflection in the water or whatever- It's hard to explain.

I understand what your saying, but i'm not sure how to do it. I'll look around the tools tommoro to see what you've described, but if your feeling nice could you tell me where the 'Mirror image' tool is, and where the opacity settings for the left/right.

I only see an overal Opacity %.

//Edit// Okay - I've got how to flip the image. Now I just need you to explain how to do the Opacity if you dont mind telling me :) :)
