Spice and Wolf coming to the UK, courtesy of Manga?

I like how they ask it as though it's so obvious, despite their track record of passing on or cancelling things that don't sell well enough o_O

If they announced things before people bought them, it might be more productive than criticising them after the fact... but of course they can't because they don't pick things up until they see US sales figures. Argh!

I'll stick with my set of R1s.

Personally I imported because the R1 came out, what, two years ago? Good news for those who didn't import, though, as they'll finally have the chance to see a great show. And if they're still not convinced, well, I can't make a more compelling case than this.

Manga UK did say that they have some big announcements to make at Expo this October. Considering how huge Spice & Wolf is, I wouldn't be surprised.

If the R1 came out two years ago, Manga should be a little ashamed at asking why someone imported!

Still going to be importing the blu-ray of the second season when I get around to it.

Might pick up the first season (seen it twice already) on DVD when it's cheaper

This, a million billion times this. I am astounded that Manga seem to keep acting like the traditional customer - salesman relationship is the opposite way round for them than it is every other company.

They need us, the consumer, to buy their products. We can go elsewhere to buy them if need be, as they surely know. So for f*cks sake why don't they sell us their products and give us a reason to choose them over the competition? The minute Manga got the S&W licence they should have been shouting it from the rooftops, not vaguely half-announcing it in the most obscure (and not only that, but also mildly condescending) way possible.

Wait, are they talking about the *first*season? God yeah, that was ages ago. Still, nice that they're releasing the series here, I guess.

I hadn't realised my throw away comment on Pagan Wolf gods being the remaining 3% would lead to (accidentally?) unveiling some unknown information, but if this was previously unknown information then all's the better.

I did laugh a little bit at the question of 'Why?' though; like mentioned above and as I directly responded; it's been out in the R1 zone for quite some time, and not just S1 (there have been two releases of this technically) but S2 and the BDs as well.

Spice and Wolf is one of the few series I avidly follow, as it's one that sold anime as a viable medium to me (I've only been following the hobby for about 2 years), and it's one I collect.

If I could have bought a UK copy previously I would, as then I don't have to worry about whether the player I'm using is multi-region, and if they can come up with some bonuses that Funimation didn't cough up (like 5.1 JP Audio - bit of a dissapointment with the BDs!) then I may still pickup the UK release of the series, but who knows; it's very late (the series is almost 4 years late compared to the air date after all).

I am an avid fan though so I might still get it if they make it tempting enough; right now I've got:
S1 R1 Original Release
S1 R1 Re-release
S2 R1 DVD/BD Ltd Ed
S1 BD
(Small aside, at least the early batches of the S1/2 BDs it seems that Funi didn't actually region lock them properly)

All the currently released Yen Press Light Novels
JP Hardback Spice and Wolf: Wolf and Gold Wheat (this is the hardback Japanese book that comes with the Gold Labelled DVD and was originally the only way to get the S2 Ep 00 OVA)
2 of the Manga (need to buy some more)
Wall Canvas
Fairly rare figure (worth about £150, its the model that cameo'd in Durarara!)
Both limited edition coins
Official Complete Guidebook/Artbook
Jyuu Ayakura's Art of Spice and Wolf Artbook (this one's really nice, bit awkward to get hold of though!)

Now bearing in mind I've got all this, do you really think I was going to wait 2 years just to find out if it was going to arrive here?
I wasn't particularly surprised they didn't respond to my response heh

@takuku1 It was a tease. We can rarely make an announcement before a contract Not criticising importers. If DVD comes out 2 years ago...
@takuku1 in the States and u wanted it badly enough why not? 2 years is a long time to wait! Hopefully with #AngelBeats for DVD and BD...
@takuku1 early next year some fans will be satisfied. Also, in order to make these acquisitions work we need to sell quite a lot of units.
@takuku1 So every sale does count, but at the same time, if a fan wants to import it then there is nothing we can do about it. Would a show
@takuku1 ...like S&W sell worse here because it's taken 2 years to be released? Maybe a little, but probably not too much. It depends on...
@takuku1 ...whether or not we do a good enough job marketing it to the aiudience.

At least they acknowledge that 2 years are a long time to wait.

And they are realistic about their responsibility for selling a show to their customers. Surprisingly level headed, given their recent past.

Welcome to the forum, alexrose!

wait if we buy R1 DVDs wont it be bad business for UK anime DVDs releases.
me i buy R1 anime DVDs that wont be likely be released in the UK but i do buy R2 anime DVDs, if a UK release is going to be cut il buy the R1 DVDs

Thanks :)
I found it by random but I'll probably stick around, although I'm found over on Animesuki more regularly :)

2 years is a long time though; it's not just about marketing, after that length of time a lot of the fans may well have imported it simply because they don't think it's actually coming via the UK channels.

What are you meant to think if you're given no news for 2 years?
By contrast Funimation apologised a few times because S2 was taking a while after the release of S1, and they've managed to get both seasons and the BD's out.

I realise we've a smaller market, but Manga really need to 'do a Funimation' and do a better job of announcing titles they've acquired or are at least trying to secure, otherwise people are going to go elsewhere if they care about a series because they think it's just not going to be available on home purchase.

By the same token, Funi are easily my most hated company for how long they take between announcement and release, so as much as it would help Manga to "do a Funi" in some ways, in others I rather suspect it is entirely Funi's fault that Manga's hands are tied.

I don't doubt they may have a hand in the delay, but I doubt its purely Funi who have delayed the series by 2 years.

And whilst its annoying, I'd rather know a series is coming than not at all, although obviously in balance heh
