The crowdfunding campaign to fire a replica of <em>Evangelion</em>'s "Spear of Longinus" into the Moon is now accepting international backers.
The campaign, in honour of the 20th anniversary of <em>Neon Genesis Evangelion</em>'s anime debut and to mark 2015 as the year <em>Evangelion </em>is set in, has been set up to pay homage to one of the classic moments in the series, when one of the Evangelion mecha throws a gigantic spear into the Moon. If the project is successful, a 240mm / 9.4 inch spear will be fired from a probe which will be Japan's first civilian unmanned lunar expedition.
The project plans to fund ¥100,000,000 (£560,000) by 23.00 JST on 5th April. Currently over ¥40,000,000 (£225,000) has been raised from Japanese backers alone. Now, with one week to go, people from outside Japan can send donations for any of the tiers between ¥5,000 - ¥50,000 (£28 - £280). Donations include certificates, posters, t-shirts, and having your name inscribed on the spear.
