Solty Rei sold out?

I can undertstand that older shows eventually vanish from the shop shelves, but Solty Rei is only a year and a bit old!

Yet when it comes to the singles Play only have volumes 4 and 6 in stock, while the other have to come from Playtraders, and Anime On Line only have 2 and 6. Similarly seeing single volumes vanishing in titles like Disgaea, Haibane Renmei and Ergo Proxy on AOL.

It's understandable that older titles get deleted and fall out of licence, but the newer ones? Is this just a shift away from singles to a boxset only retail model?

Move to box sets I assume. The only people who buy the singles are ones that have it part complete as singles. Otherwise you'd buy the (normaly cheaper) boxset.

With singles sales dying a slow death, MVM's more recent series probably had smaller print runs than their older releases. For a while they've been getting box sets out 6-12 months after the singles have finished, so I imagine there's not much point keeping them in print.

I would say that there has been a shift from singles to half season sets and complete series due to shelf space.

By the time volume 6 has come out anyone wanting volume 1 would have trouble finding it in store so new fans are less likely to start a series that is already out.
