So I finally saw the Death Note anime...

Watched the first episode and loved it (a lot better than the movie I thought) but I have a couple of questions.

1) Does it somehow turn into a generic shonen jump story? I don't see how really but even if it does I think I could cope with this kind of quality.

2) How long is the series going to run for? If it's never ending like Naruto or Bleach then that would be a let down.

Dont know about the anime as much, as i stopped watching it at ep 6, but still have 23 eps downloaded though.
But if it follows the manga, it isnt like any shonen ive seen, loads of twists and is great and apparently you wont guess the ending.
There are suppose to be 37 eps to the anime aswel

From what I've heard, the series will run for 37 episodes, following the manga storyline directly.
From what is currently out, there are 12 more episodes until the anime series finale.

That can at least answer one of your questions if anything :]

I watched it but just couldn't get into it, something just didn't click for me and I couldn't face collecting another story that goes on and on

Well if 37 episodes is as far as it's going I can palate that. It's a welcome change from the other sub par Shonen Jump series i've seen like Naruto or Bleach. This was one good introductory episode, it usually takes a couple of episodes before I'm grasping to see more. In fact the only thing I haven't liked so far is the OP and ED which don't fit with the shows general atmosphere at all.

At least it's opened my eyes that SJ can have some series with genuine interest.

Death Note is awesome up to a certain part, for those who've read the entire manga they'll know what I'm talking about. In fact, the most recent episode is the turning point (episode 25), after this it becomes a bit ******. But I won't spoil anything, enjoy it because it's a great series.

And if you think the OP doesn't fit it now, wait until it gets to around Episode 20 and it changes again into some strange, nu-metal esque song.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT WATCH AFTER EPISODE ENTITLED "Silence" Heed these words, the story turns into crap.

Actually I've seen the second OP and even though I don't think much of the song itself it fits more with the series dark tone than the first.

I'll have to watch after Silence if i'm still enjoying the series by then. I need some from of conclusion even if it's not a great one.

Eh, there's no real harm in continuing to watch after that point, but things just seem a bit more forced. I mean, I understand why, but it still seems kinda a shame... I was almost hoping for a dystopiotic finish, would've been interesting.

I hope that it turns out to be like what people were telling me about the end of FMA. 'Oh the ending and movie are awful! don't watch them' but I ended up watching them and loved them. They just didn't seem to like them because the ending of the series wasn't the same as in the manga.

Well, yeah, watch it if you like, but it won't be like the FMA anime, it'll stick to the original plot until the end, but when you watch it to the end I want your final comments on it to see what you thought of what everyone else doesn't like.

Will do. I may even do a whole topic on it like I did with Haibane, Naruto and Get Backers.

Do, I haven't been able to get my hands on this yet mainly because i've got too many anime to watch.

Is this the one where if you post about it on a forum this character comes and kills the person in trade for your soul?

No, it's about a bored Death God that dropped his Death Note into the human world just for his entertainment. When someone writes someone elses name in the Death Note they die within 40 seconds unless they specifically state the cause of death.

That sounds like Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl) which is now supposedly licensed by Funimation and the 2nd season has just ended in Japan.

That's the one, any good?

You will really love death note because it's just a very intelligent anime and will make your head spin and as far as I know there's no anime such like Death note where the main character has a very dark side coz we're kind of used on very compassionate characters.... I didn't like the episode where in he turned very nice and you will miss the old him but there is something behind that and you will discover that it was a well made-out plan I am already excited on the upcoming episodes where everything will heat up......

I think that the op and ed themes were just fitting as it is..... 2nd op is just extreme

Death Note is just one of my top 5 favorites

Not really, it's too episodic, and too much locked into it's own formula. Watch Death Note instead.

No other anime where the main character has a very dark side? You even have Lelouch as your avatar!
It's unusal to have an anti-hero as the protagonist, but not unheard of.
Oh, and w.r.t. your spoiler: - The whole thing with Light becoming nice (I'm assuming you mean he's just relinquished the death note?) is just showing us what he was like before he picked up the death note - we never really got to see that. Thus we can see how much he has been corrupted by the power the death note has given him.

Watched up to episode 9 now and i'm really impressed. Loving the detective work going on here and Lights counter movements. Also loving how Ryuk is freaking out about the apples. :p

Going strong so far and is presented much better than the movie although I will commend them on fitting so much into the frame of a movie without it seeming too cramped.

Episode 12: Wow! Just Wow! L's reaction to the tape was an intense moment.
