Should I only watch Prof Layton film after the games?

I am currently playing through the first Professor Layton game but I have also got the first Professor Layton film to watch.

Is it best to play through the first three games before I watch the movie or doesn't it matter that much?

The movie requires no prior knowledge of any characters, locations or events from the games. It introduces the characters as if it were your first time meeting them. :)

I mean more in the sense of does the film spoil the mystery of any of the games? For example the film never mentions anything to do with the solution to Golden Apple mystery from the first game for example.

I don't want to watch the film yet, If it will spoil my enjoyment of the game for revealing too much about them.

You can watch the movie before playing the games and it will not spoil your enjoyment of the games in the slightest.

The events of the movie all happen before all Layton games currently available in the UK so, no, there's no spoilers. Supposedly, the story is being told from in some downtime between games two and three. However, it's pretty much universally true that you can pick up and play any one Layton product and not have it infringe on your enjoyment of another. There are very few recurring elements.

I thought the first three games are connected somehow? I remember hearing something like that mentioned before when seeing some video reviews on prof layton games.

No, you don't need to have played the games first, saying that the games are great so you should play them anyway!

Recently just finished the first game. Just need to get 2 and 3rd game now to complete the trilogy. While it's correct the film is set before the main
series of games and so won't spoil the games themselves. It seems you need to play the games in order as they are connected. Just seeing who recurs in the second games will no question spoil the first game surprises.

Edit: Just watched the first film and just to warn to everyone it contains a massive spoiler at the beginning of the film which will spoil the first game somewhat.

Flora, the character who's the main focus of the first game and tags along with Layton & Luke. She appears right at the beginning, in a small segment based at least after the first game.
