The North American anime distributor Sentai Filmworks has announced on Friday that it has acquired the Guin Saga fantasy television anime series from Satelight and Aniplex. The 2009 anime is based on Kaoru Kurimoto's epic 151-volume fantasy novel series. In this heroic adventure story, a strange leopard-headed warrior named Guin protects the twin royal heirs from the marauding Mongauli Army. A 164-second English-dubbed trailer is streaming on the anime's official Japanese website.

I'll be buying this. After Sentai's initial run of cutesy shows they seem to have hit a vein of Rui-friendly series; definitely a good trend!

The types of licenses some of the R1 companies are picking up seems to be becoming increasingly random.

I dropped it. That's all the ignorant masses need to know, really. All it has going for its is its good but out of place soundtrack.

Just finished watching Guin Saga not long ago, and I'm happily surprised to hear Sentai have it now :)
My opinion; it's a show that starts off pretty good with plenty of fantasy epic style promise, but then suffers greatly from trying to fit too much story into just one season.
If it'd had the budget, and the novels were fresh in the fanbases consciousness, then it could have made a pretty great long running series with a rich background to draw upon. Instead it leaves you with the feeling you're watching a clip show of something greater :/

I'll probably pick it up anyway as the story has quite grabbed me, and it's certainly got me interested in tracking down the novels :)

I watched seven episodes before the fansubs stalled (indefinitely?). If it comes to the UK at reasonable UK prices, I might buy it. If not, I consider it no great loss. Even as a fantasy nut I found myself engaged only on occasion.

It's been fully subbed, and although it isn't all that great by today's standards in terms of characterization and plot twists, it's still a good watch with clean animation and an epic OST.

Example.

I recently read all five novels, so it has a lot to live up to. It deserves a dub, but I can only hope it gets one. I also hope it perks peoples interest in the novels so much so that Vertical will translate and publish the next arc.
