<em><strong>Seirei no Moribito</strong></em>, a fantasy adventure TV series animated by the acclaimed Production "Ghost in the Shell" IG, <a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-03-27/media-blasters-rescues-seirei-no-moribito-license">has been licensed</a> by <em>Media Blasters</em> for US DVD distribution. The series, also known as <em><strong>Guardian of the Sacred Spirit</strong></em>, was originally acquired by <em>Geneon</em>, but after they collapsed last year, many of their titles, including this series, were placed on an indefinate hiatus. It's expected that more of <em>Geneon</em>'s anime catalogue, from <em>Black Lagoon </em>to <em>Hellsing</em>, will be cherry-picked by other US anime distributors.

Although I’ve haven’t heard of this show it’s very exciting news. I had wondered if any of the former Geneon titles would ever see the light of day again.

And having checked mid post, this seems to be regarded as quite a good series. So one for my wish list.

It was definitely one of the better series to come out last year. Very much "true fantasy" in that it's completely set in a different time and different culture. Also, it has a great soundtrack from Kenji Kawai and the animation is better that most of what's released in the UK. In particular, episode three is probably the single best episode of anime I've seen for a very long time. Just in terms of action, that one episode was stunning.

Great news, one of my personal favourites and definitely a highlight for last year. One i'll definitely be picking up. Wasn't there meant to be a a release for the novels the series was based on as well? As i'd really like to see how the series actually continues on after this.

Glad some one picked it up, but unsure if it will do well.

It's bound to do well.

Cartoon Network negociated to get it on adult swim before Media Blasters negociated to get the license, so obviously the higher ups think it's going to be popular, and I couldn't agree more. This show is absolutely immense.

That and as Arby mentioned - Scholastic are releasing the novels in the Summer. So all in all I'm sure this is going to do very well indeed.

Hey, I'm a pessimist and a cynic. Even my boss doesn't expect optimism out of me. It's good, but since it doesn't fit the more predefined anime genre's and while not the most cerebral of anime it is far from mindless and we all know how much American's like using their minds.
Good news about the books though.
