The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the upcoming live action adaptation of Naoki Urasawa's manga Monster will have the screenplay written by Josh Olson (who worked on the upcoming A History Of Violence movie). David Cronenberg shall also be involved as screenwriter for the movie. Olson is said to be also drafting plans for a possible sequel.

The popular mystery/horror manga has also been adapted into an anime series.

I've never heard of those people, or the film one worked on. I guess that's not surprising, given I rarely watch movies!
I still don't know if I like the idea of a live action Monster. I can't see how they can fit everything even into a trilogy of films. I get impressions of The Fugitive in my head :?

The Fugitive wasn't a bad film but after all i've heard about Monster i'dlike to see something different. David Cronenberg is pretty well respected though so it might be worth keeping an eye on.

That's an impressive writing combo, Cronenberg is a living legend and I've heard no end of good things about his pairing with Olson on 'The History of Violence'.

But who would you like to see in the directors chair? I think Monster would be perfect for David Fincher or Chris Nolan, they excel at these kinds of dark psychological twisters.

'dark psychological twister' sounds like a job for David Lynch actually - one of my all-time favourite directors. as far as i know though, he directs films he's written himself, rather than adapt someone else's story for the screen.

Ok, I love Monster, and would like to see what's made of it, but I don't see how an 18-volume manga series which spawned a superb anime which runs on for a long time, about three times standard series length, will translate into around two hours of film without massive cuts in the plot, the best part of the manga and anime.
