Scanner problem

As of late, my scanner is being an a**hole.

Last time it worked was 5 days ago, when I uploaded my abstract-thing on Deviant Art.
Now, it isn't just acting weird, it's being completely undetected by my computer, which is strange because it's never that before, neither has it had any changes/settings altered that may have caused it.

I've tried installing the latest drivers from the HP support site, which yielded only a dead end, notifying me that I had the most up-to-date drivers already installed, and I checked all connections to the unit, and power supply-- bupkiss.

And finally, when I press the resume printing button on my printer/scanner/photocopier combo, it simply prints FROM whatever happens to be in the scanner, which indicates the scanner is in fact in perfect, working order (minus being able to scan into my HP Photosmart Essential, or in any other way apart from the aforementioned). :x

So, this still lifts the question I ask myself now:

WTF?

Is my scanner just ******?

Will I have to buy a new one?

Is Jimmy Hoffa really dead?

If you can think of what may be wrong, go ahead, because I'm drawing blanks here.

I have no idea on how to sort the HP thing, but I had a similar experience with my scanner.

I scanned from using "Paperport" software, and at one time it was acting up on me (no recognising the device in the USB port).
I then scanned in Photoshop and it work... then it didn't and went back to Paperport again...

So it is a really funky problem, but it hasn't happened to me in over a year now.
Sorry about not helping out much...
 
My scanner has to reinstall itself every time I turn off my computer, and the printer doesint work, mines a HP aswell, think Im gonna buy a canon, Ive heard good things, sorry that wasint much help^^
 
Scanner is now working.

I just heard my printer randomly whirring, so I tried printing something, and it worked, then I figured the scanner would work too, and it did.

I hate scanners.

Is this before, or after you used Photoshop... Cuz if it is, then we may have discovered a common fault. :p Maybe Photoshop wanted more attention.

Nope, checked it in Photoshop, and it wasn't picking up the device there either.

It was very peculiar indeed, as it literally just started working out of the blue.
