RIP my Trusty PS2

Well its lasted a looooong time, one of the original PS2's, its been to uni with me and never broken down on me until today.......

Was happily playing GTA when the game froze, rebooted the system it froze again and now it just comes up disc error no matter what I load into it.

This PS2 has lasted me for a long time but why did it have to break now, with NFS Carbon out next month and Final Fantasy XII out next year all it had to do was hold out for another 6 months so I could get the PS3 but now I am stuck with a decision.

Pay out £95 for a new PS2 or try to find a good 2nd hand one in the local trade-it for the next 6 months or wait consoless (OK I have a PSP buts its not the same) til the PS3 finally makes it over here?

ARGHHHHHHH...... Still RIP my trusty console

we have two PS2's here..one from when they where first released and a more newer one but still not the slimline..they both work though the older one needs the lens cleaned a lot and the fan is awfully noisy a lot of the time :?

Just recently had to buy my second. My first technically didn't break but I saw it coming, and thought I'd buy one when I had the money.

Ouch, 3 PS2's. I got mine the day it was released and where it is pretty unreliable and occansionally dies, its still in working order :) However, my PS2 has blow up the odd TV now and then. Hope it survives till at least FFXII comes around.

i got mine when they dropped the price to £200 (about a year after launch i think) and it lasted quite a while working fine then the disc read errors started and it still plays everything but it can very picky about what though.

I got my first one in the second wave and it lasted me 3 years before i had replace it with my Slimline system. It was lucky that it broke down just a month before the slimline system was released... happy times. Anyway you could always import a PS3 from Lik-Sang... ...DAMN!

What makes things worst (at least in my personal expereinces) is that with all three machines I've owned, I've always regulary used a high-quality laser lens cleaner, prevented dust build-up (within reason) and used power modulation devices (you know, a device that prevents lighting, spikes and surges not to mention modulates the electricity) and it all bears little fruit. I hate to say it, but I reckon its cheap parts.

Though to be fair, my first PS2 lasted me a good four and a half years. I'm hoping this third one I got (which is over a year and a half old now) will endure (within a reasonable time limit).

Thought I'd share that.

Even if you could, you would probably be hit with about £100 import tax, so it's not reccomended =P

Well I went into Gamestation and they wanted £80 for a pre-owned PS2 so I bought a pre-owned one from Game as I have a £5 voucher and got it for £75, got home plugged it all in and..... didn't work, completely broken.

So went back to game and thought F'it I'll just spend £90 and get a brand new one, so I am here now playing GTA on my new PS2 and smiling again.... at least until my credit card bill arrives, however to recoupe costs I will be selling my PS2 on ebay and see if anyone wants it, even £20 will be better than nothing. After all I sold a broken Sky Box on there last year for £30

Sure it isn't just a broken disc driver or fan belt or did you try get rid of the dust with a cotton bud?

If not i heard they sold a ps2 box on ebay for 80 quid :p

So you're selling a broken PS2 on E-bay? No wonder E-bay has a crappy reputation.

I will tell the seller it is broken, the same as I did with the sky box. All the PS2 needs is the laser replacing and it'll work fine.

Ah, that's better then, at least you're not being harsh and not telling them.

Nah I never tell them, my conscience wouldn't let me I'd be affraid of bad feedback (no really I love my 100%) or worse they'd want a refund.

How much are you selling it for, just out of interest?
