Revision Sucks.

I've just started revising for my RE exam tommoro.

So- I started by taking some quiz on BBC Bitesize- but then I found a efw of these questions stupid.

Ahem:

2. The First Article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says: Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

Hard luck. The statement is false. It is in the Second Article.

Since when has it mattered if I didn't know the exact article? But fair enough- I actually got this wrong...

6. The Shoah is another name for a synagogue.

What the ****- that doesn't make sense... right?

10. God called Adam's wife Eve.

You said: True

Well done. That's correct! It was Adam who called her Eve.

Well... doesn't that mean i'm wrong?

I'm confused. Can someone shed lights on my problems here?

My general answer to that is, its bitesize. My thoughts on it in general are though that its the english education system, and i've never understood it, and i really don't expect to ever as well. The first question was just being evil, the second and third where obviously good examples of them either being too damned tired to right the stuff in properly, or they couldn't be arsed to do so.

On revision though, i'm not liking it myself. First exam is on thursday and i'm not exactly looking forward to it. At least i only have four to deal with over a week, so its not to bad.

Evil is an understatement

Looks like they didn't put much effort into proofreading their RE questions :(

Good luck to all of you with exams on the horizon. It feels good when it's all over, so very good.

School R.E. exams. They exist in part for the purposes of spreading political correctness, and as such are designed to be passed. Don't worry yourself about such a subject. From what I remember, the exam itself is only half a standard qualification.

When revising school stuff, it's best sticking to the past exams and exam reports published on the exam boards' websites, taking unofficial revision questions with a pinch of salt if they deviate from the official ones.
You'll notice how predictably many papers are written, and perhaps you'll spot a slight decrease in difficulty from one year to the next. It's all about jumping through hoops.

Yeah but- I wanted to take RE as an AS level so... I really need to pass this.

I have time tommoro to revise cause my exam aint till 1pm so i'll probably kill some past papers then.

Remember not to overdo it on the days leading up to the exam.
If you know the question varieties and can write consistently for a couple of hours, you should find the flow of your answers comes naturally.
Obtaining a grade sufficient to progress to an A-level programme isn't difficult.

What the F***- that doesn't make sense... right?
That's really bad. Shoah means "Calamity" and is often used as another term for the Holocaust. Even the question is pretty screwed up if you think about it.

Revision... I think it's overrated personally, I got an A in English with next to zero revision... but also D in Science. Double D's actually *nudge nudge, wink wink* (though it was actually worth it to be able to make that joke just now - but the fact I'm happy to sacrifice two GCSE's to make a joke about bosoms should tell you it's probably best not to listen to my advice) :p

Good luck though!

I agree there. Elementary school and high school are the two worst sources of misinformation and 'common sense' as opposed to academic knowledge. In 'academia' you are correct when you can offer a good argument, in school you are correct when you have a contract of employment.

Aye- I later found out it was the Holocaust.

It's all easy you guys saying "GCSEs mean ****- it's all common sense"- but it really aint that easy. They're pretty stressing tbh.

LMAO that's hillarious mate! Typical BBC finding it upon themselves to rip the education system to pieces and advise teachers on how to teach. Pffft pathetic. It's a wonder so many of these kids get good grades.

i revised alot for all my GCSE's

but i only got C's in all of them, irnocally, most of my coursework got As or Bs, which is why i prefer coursework to exams, not least as coursework is actually stuff that might be of use in a job, unlike exams that merely test my ability to regurgitate facts

All i'm going to say is...

i attended every mock exam for my GCSE's Bar the R.E one....i went round my mates and we got drunk on lemonade :D

for that we where (default) sent to the bottom R.E set.
i walked out of the high school with an A in R.E (amongst other subjects).
never revised for it, hell its all balls and its only half a GCSE. its not going to get you a job unless you want to be a vicar

focus more on the subjects that matter, and leave R.E alone, if you argue the case in the R.E exam you'll walk out with an A too.

also.....good luck to all :)

Naw. It shows cultural understanding. Im taking it at AS level cause it's supposed to look good for Law too xD

Plus it's interesting.

Wait, you get exams on RE? That just clicked with me as back in high school, when we had to do RE, we never got exams for it at all. We got two assessments which once completed, was it. Nothing else at all. There was probably higher RE and such, but i don't know many people, if any, that took that in our year.

I did a full RE GCSE (I think it was actually called RS but times may have changed). You had to write loads of essays - it was worse than English ;)

It was chosen despite me being a rather dedicated Atheist because I found it interesting. Also I was raised as a strict Catholic so it was pretty much a guaranteed A after all those years studying it against my will.

R

my ****** "catholic" school made me do R.E, i didnt bother with any of the homework (didnt get in any trouble though, no-one in my class (bottom set) did any homework) and i put the shortest answers possible in the exam, wasting my time, they got what they deserved, my complete and utter contempt.

Oh don't get me wrong, it’s interesting. But not something I’d worry about.
Personally i like taking both sides of a question. Turning it into arguments for and against,
Bringing in benefits and flaws in the origins and how true they must be.....I’m not the first one in my family to do it either.

My dad argued that Moses was delusional. Well after supposedly 40 days walking in the desert. He saw burning bushes talking to him...the desert along with fatigue are able to play with the mind so it’s not surprising to think a bush was talking to you. Also with the heat it’s hardly surprising that the bush was on fire either.

Along with other counter arguments on religion....he walked out with a A* in R.E lol.

:)

To be honest, if the results count for nil in the long run, effort is better spent elsewhere. I strongly wish I could have done something similar for school Drama lessons.
