We have recently posted Stuart Bullen's review of The Guyver, a "cult classic" anime series that was popular in the UK during the 90s but has since vanished from our shop shelves.
A blood soaked and refreshing riff on the mecha genre that starts off strong but loses it's way in the end, despite this The Guyver still remains a fascinating foray into the darker side of the mecha genre and on the strength of the first six episodes is a more than worthy purchase.

I love The Guyver, still have all my videos!! The movie was OK but the animation was horrid!! I have contemplated getting it on DVD but it's the age old problem of wanting new anime over replacing videos!!

I still love the Guyver too, as I mentioned in the review it's one of my earliest Anime memories and i never get tired of it. It may be silly and a little OTT but's it's a perfect example of how anime used to be done. Anybody seen the first movie I'm pretty sure Mark (Skywalker) Hamill was in it......or did I dream that??

I loved it when it first came out since it was one of the few programmes that would make it as far as sci-fi channel.

These days though, it seems camp.

Which movie are you talking about? I've seen the anime movie subtitled and of course the forever cheesy but sooooooooo good live action movie!!

There were two movies Guyver: Dark Hero was the sequel starring David Hayter (interestingly also the voice of Solid Snake and scriptwriter for X-men 1+2 and Watchmen). The other was on the sci-fi channel years ago , it is available on R1 dvd and follows the first Guyver story arc....i seem to remember it was quite faithful to the anime.
